Wofford hands Bulldogs first home loss

ASHEVILLE, N.C. – The UNC Asheville women's basketball team fell for the first time at home on Sunday as Wofford defeated the Bulldogs, 76-50, at Kimmel Arena. The loss pushes Asheville's record to 1-2. Senior Nadiria Evans led the way for UNC Asheville with 18 points, and Amaryah Corpening also finished the afternoon in double figures with 12 points.

The first two quarters of Sunday's contest were quite a bit different. The Bulldogs shot 3-for-17 from the field, including a 0-for-6 mark from beyond the arc. Wofford, meanwhile, outrebounded Asheville 16-7 in the first 10 minutes. In that rebounding advantage, the Terriers snatched five offensive rebounds that lead to six second-chance points. With these factors working together, Wofford led 14-6 after one.

Midway through the second quarter, the Terriers knocked down a pair of three-pointers to extend their lead to 16, 26-10. With an improved shooting effort (46.7), the Bulldogs chipped away at the deficit. Corpening connected on a late three to bring the Bulldogs back within 10, 32-22, as the two teams hit the locker room for halftime.

Wofford really started to click offensively when the two teams returned for the second half. The Terriers connected four of their first five shots in the third before going on a 10-0 run to begin the fourth. As a team, Wofford shot 62 percent in the final two quarters to expand its lead and eventually winning Sunday's contest, 76-50.

Asheville will be back in action on Wednesday when they host SEC power Florida in another non-conference matchup at Kimmel Arena. The Bulldogs and Gators are scheduled to tip it off at 4 p.m. on ESPN+.
