Bulldogs Close Out Day Two of ETSU Invitational

JOHNSON CITY, TENN. – UNC Asheville track and field carried their success from day one of the ETSU Invitational into day two as the Bulldogs were consistently at the top of the competition throughout the meet.
The Bulldogs competed in the one mile run to begin day two of competition. Madeline Nichols led the Bulldogs in the women's one mile with a fourth place finish. She completed the event with a time of 5:20.62. Alyx Evans wasn't far behind with the seventh fastest time of 5:32.97.
India Appleton ran the one mile with a time of 5:45.89 and Morgan Costelloe finished a spot behind with a time of 5:49.83. Ava Nkadi and Corey Mcvay each finished in under six minutes as Nkadi ran a 5:54.26 and McVay ran a 5:59.24. UNC Asheville was one of two teams to have five competitors finish in the top 17 in the event.
Sage Turner highlighted the men's one mile run for the Bulldogs with a third place finish with a time of 4:24.77. John Ciprich and Zach Boone were only a few spots behind as Ciprich ran a time of 4:32.15 and Boone finished with a time of 4:32.60.
Thomas Little ran a time of 4:37.00 for a 12th place finish while Walker Lezotte ran a time of 4:42.02 and Alex Haines finished with a time of 4:42.02. UNC Asheville was the only time to have six competitors finish in the top 17 in the men's event.
In the women's 60m, Claudia Prieto finished with a third place finish with a time of 7.82.
Bryson Riddick led the Bulldogs in the men's 400m with a fourth place finish with a time of 50.12. Joel Bowers finished one spot behind Riddick with a time if 50.22.
In the women's 400m, Desire Brown led the Bulldogs with a time of 58.59 while Raven Thurman was right behind her with a time of 58.98.
Nick Roberts finished in fourth place in the men's 60m hurdles with a time of 8.61.
The Bulldogs finished fourth in the women's 4000m DMR. Madeline Nichols, Ava Nkadi, Morgan Costelloe and India Appleton combined for a time of 13:24.74.
In the men's 4000m DMR, UNC Asheville's A relay consisting of Sage Turner, Walker Lezotte, John Ciprich and Thomas Little claimed a second place finish with a time of 10:52.59. The Bulldog's B relay consisting of Tom Germann, Jack Clemens, Alex Haines and Nathaniel Edwards earned a fourth place finish with a time of 11:13.67.
UNC Asheville had two relay teams finish in the top four in the men's 4x400m relay. Tyree McFalling, Joel Bowers, Bryson Riddick and Isaac Teasley earned a second place finish in the event with an overall time of 3:20.99. The quartet of Denley Joseph, Victor Mathuthu, Cameron Woodyard and Akin Williams claimed a fourth place finish with a time of 3:26.21.
Victor Mathuthu finished in sixth place in the men's long jump with a jump of 6.93 meters.
Two Bulldogs finished in the top seven in the men's shot put. Solomon McDonald earned a fourth place spot with a throw of 14.43 meters while Jack Choiniere finished in the seventh spot with a throw of 13.76 meters.
Kathryn Brown earned a fifth overall finish in the women's long jump with a jump of 5.71 meters while Claudia Prieto claimed the eighth spot with a jump of 5.59 meters.
UNC Asheville will compete again in two weeks when they travel to West Virginia for the Thundering Herd Invitational on the campus of Marshall University, January 24-25.
