Baseball to Host Radford for Final Home Series of 2019 Season; Schedule Changed Due to Weather

ASHEVILLE, N.C. – The UNC Asheville baseball team is scheduled to host Big South Conference rival Radford at Greenwood Field for a three-game series on May 9-10.

The first game of the series will now be played on Thursday, May 9. First pitch for game one is scheduled for 7 p.m. Games two and three will be played as a doubleheader on Friday, May 10. A start time for the doubleheader will be decided on Thursday.

This weekend's series will be the final home games for the Bulldogs in the 2019 season. The seven Bulldog seniors will be recognized during the weekend series.

About the Bulldogs
UNC Asheville is 14-30 on the 2019 season. The Bulldogs are currently in eighth place in the Big South Conference with an 8-13 record against conference opponents. Nine of the Bulldogs' 13 wins have come at Greenwood Field.

Greg Gasparro leads the Bulldogs of anyone with at least 40 starts with a .325 batting average. That average puts the Bulldog lead-off hitter in the top eight in the Big South Conference. The junior outfielder has also accumulated 21 walks and is in fourth place in the Big South in on-base percentage at .429. Brandon Lankford is second in the Big South Conference with 13 home runs in the 2019 season. The junior third baseman leads the Bulldogs in home runs and also in runs scored with 37. Danny Wilson leads the Bulldog lineup with 10 doubles, 50 hits and 41 RBIs. The senior is in third place in the Big South Conference in RBIs and is only seven RBIs off the top spot in the conference.

On the hill, Jordan Carr leads the Bulldogs with 57 innings pitched. The left-handed hurler is also second in the Big South Conference with 12 starts this season. Jacob Edwards has thrown 47.1 innings in eight starts and 15 total appearances. The freshman left-hander is currently seventh in the Big South Conference with a 3.61 ERA. The Bulldogs have three pitchers in the top 10 in the Big South in appearances. Eric Whitecavage, the Bulldogs all-time leader in appearances, has made 23 appearances in the 2019 season. Kole Harris has pitched in 21 games and Joe Sondock has made 20 appearances. Harris has finished 17 games this season which is second most in the Big South Conference. The right-handed reliever is also tied for the top spot in the conference with seven saves.

About the Highlanders
Radford is 23-24 overall in the 2019 season. The Highlanders are currently tied for second place in the Big South Conference with a 14-7 record in conference matchups.

As a team, the Highlanders are hitting .260 and have scored 306 runs this season. Andrew Szamski has started 47 games for the Highlanders and leads the team with a .317 batting average. The redshirt senior also leads the team with 47 RBIs, 95 total bases and 44 runs scored. Szamski is tied for the Highlander lead in home runs with teammate J.D. Mundy with nine long balls. Spencer Horwitz is hitting .287 and has scored 40 runs, which is good enough for top five in the Big South Conference.

Zack Ridgely has thrown 62 innings for the Highlanders this season. The left-handed hurler has started 12 games with a 3-3 record and a 3.63 ERA. Cameron Fritz has thrown 34.2 innings out of the bullpen this season. Fritz has pitched to a 5-1 record and 2.86 ERA. The senior righty has also struck out 41 batters. Bruce Hudson has thrown 37 innings out of the bullpen and has a 4-1 record with a 2.19 ERA.
