Santos Appointed to NCAA Women’s Volleyball Rules Committee

INDIANAPOLIS – UNC Asheville volleyball head coach Frederico Santos has been appointed to the NCAA Women's Volleyball Rules Committee.
Santos will officially begin his duties in this role in September of 2019 with his term running through August of 2023.
The native of Brazil is in his ninth season in charge of UNC Asheville volleyball. The Bulldogs have picked up 108 wins over the course of his eight seasons. Last season the Bulldogs finished 16-12 overall, which included a 10-6 record in Big South play.
Overall in his career, Santos has guided his teams to 154 wins as a head coach. He has coached 16 all-conference players, six all-freshman team honorees, two All-Americans and one conference and region player of the year.
As the Bulldogs' head coach, Santos has coached 12 all-conference players and three all-freshmen. Cindi Miller, Anna Moore, Rachel Wells and Cara Guthrie all earned first-team honors while with the program. He has taken three teams to the semifinals of the Big South Conference Tournament (2011, 2012 and 2018) and former Bulldog Rachel Wells led the nation in digs in 2013, earning her a tryout with the U.S. National Team.
UNC Asheville volleyball under Santos' guidance won 10 of its last 11 matches to close out the 2018 season. UNC Asheville's 10-match winning streak that was snapped in its Big South Tournament semifinal loss to High Point was its longest winning streak since 2005.
UNC Asheville's 16 wins this past season were the most for the Bulldogs since winning 17 in the 2013 season. UNC Asheville picked up its second straight and third top-four finish in Big South play in the last four years with its fourth-place finish in the league standings.
Four Bulldogs picked up accolades from the Big South Conference with Cara Guthrie named first-team all-league and Julia Borges chosen second-team. Grace Volk was selected to the Big South All-Freshman Team, while Carter Kennedy was tabbed to the All-Academic Team for the second straight year.
