Box Score
ASHEVILLE, N.C. – UNC Asheville men's tennis overcame a 2-0 deficit to defeat Presbyterian 4-3 on Wednesday afternoon at the Asheville Racquet Club Downtown.
"I'm really proud of the way the guys responded to what was obviously an unfortunate loss for us today with Henry Patten going down to injury," UNC Asheville men's tennis head coach Tom Hand said. "That's the sort of thing that happens over the course of the season and I was proud of how the guys responded. That is what it is, and we are going to do everything we can to get him healthy again and until he is, it is on the rest of us to step up and fill that hole. It feels really good to come out with a win today. That is a tough team and it is always a tough battle. I'll take a 4-3 win over Presbyterian any day of the week."
Presbyterian picked up the doubles point to take an early lead. The match at No. 1 doubles was retired in Presbyterian's favor due to the unfortunate injury to Patten. Oli Nolan and Sirawit Daosaengsawang won the match at No. 2 to even things for the Bulldogs, but the Blue Hose would snag the match at No. 3 to claim the point.
Presbyterian (9-13, 3-3) would win the match at No. 2 to give the Blue Hose a 2-0 lead.
The Bulldogs (18-3, 5-1) would then go on a run to win the next four matches to clinch the win. Nolan at No. 1 won his match in two sets to pick up his 11th win of the season.
Charlie Morkel at No. 4, Leo Bierbaum at No. 5 and Quinn Fender at No. 6 would all win three set thrillers to give the Bulldogs the win. The Blue Hose took the match at No. 3 for the final score of 4-3 in the Bulldog's favor.
The Bulldogs are now 9-0 at home this season.
Next the Bulldogs will celebrate Senior Day on Saturday, April 6 when they take on Hampton at 1 p.m. at the Asheville Racquet Club Downtown. The match is part of a doubleheader at ARC Downtown with the women's tennis team battling High Point at 10 a.m.
Senior Day festivities are scheduled for the men and the women between the two matches.
