Gasparro Has Three Hits for Bulldogs in Vs. Cancer Awareness Day Game

ASHEVILLE, N.C. – Greg Gasparro finished with three hits in UNC Asheville's 12-1 loss to Wofford on Tuesday, April 23, at Greenwood Field.

In addition, UNC Asheville held its annual Vs. Cancer Awareness Game on Tuesday, April 23. After the game, UNC Asheville players shaved their heads to raise awareness for the important cause.

Wofford (25-17) scored the first 12 runs of the game before UNC Asheville (13-26) was able to score in the bottom of the seventh.

The Bulldogs scored the run in the bottom of the seventh when with the bases loaded Danny Wilson was walked to bring in Kole Harris.

Gasparro overall ended the game 3-for-4 at the dish. He is now hitting a team-best .366 on the season.

The Bulldogs were out-hit, 14-7, in the game with Hudson Byorick and Andrew Orzel leading the Terriers with three hits each.

Five different Bulldogs had hits in the game with Brandon Lankford, Wilson, Chris Troost and Kole Harris also each notching a hit.

Wofford's Hayes Heinecke was on a pitch count in the contest and picked up the win in his 1.2 innings to start things off. He secured his eighth win of the year to move to 8-0. Heinecke was one of six Terrier pitchers utilized.

UNC Asheville starter Danny Wilson (0-5) suffered the loss. He pitched the first 2.0 innings for UNC Asheville. Five Bulldog pitchers were used in total.

Dominic Freeberger made his third appearance of the year on the hill in the game to close things out for UNC Asheville and he pitched two scoreless innings, fanning two.

UNC Asheville will next travel to Cullowhee, N.C. for a mountain rivalry matchup with Western Carolina on April 24 at 6 p.m. The game will be streamed live on ESPN+.
