Baseball to Host Charleston Southern at Greenwood Field; Weekend Schedule Altered Due to Impending Weather

ASHEVILLE, N.C. – The UNC Asheville baseball team is scheduled to host Big South Conference rival Charleston Southern at Greenwood Field April 18-20.

Due to impending weather the schedule for this weekend's series has been altered. Games one and two versus Charleston Southern will now be played as part of a doubleheader on Thursday, April 18. Game one will begin at 1 p.m. while first pitch for game two will be approximately 45 minutes after the conclusion of game one. A decision will be made on Thursday, April 18 about when game three of the series will be played.

About the Bulldogs
The Bulldogs are 12-23 overall on the 2019 season. UNC Asheville is currently tied for sixth place in the Big South Conference standings with a 7-8 record. The Bulldogs are 8-6 in games played at Greenwood Field.

In UNC Asheville's weekend series versus Winthrop, third baseman Brandon Lankford hit his 11th and 12th home runs of the season. The total is a new career high and the junior is now tied for the lead in the Big South Conference and is in the top 16 in all of NCAA Division I baseball in home runs. Lankford's previous season high was 10 which was set in his freshman season.

Greg Gasparro ended up with four hits in eight at-bats in the series versus Winthrop. He also had one RBI and scored four runs out of the lead-off spot. Danny Wilson put up four hits and five RBIs, while Dominic Freeberger reached base three times and touched home three times.

UNC Asheville put 12 runs on the board in Friday night's victory over Winthrop. All nine Bulldogs that started the game ended the game with one hit or more and seven of the nine touched home at least once.

On the mound, Jordan Carr pitched a gem in the Bulldogs victory on Friday. The left-handed hurler surrendered only two runs and picked up his third win of the season. Carr pitched 5.2 innings while striking out five. Blake Brown worked 3.1 innings out of the pen. The junior struck out seven of the 13 batters he faced and allowed only three baserunners en route to his first save of the 2019 season.

In Saturday's doubleheader versus Winthrop, Austin Fahr threw 4.1 innings out of the bullpen in game 1. Fahr allowed no runs on six hits. In game 2, Jacob Edwards threw a career high seven innings. The freshman left-hander allowed two earned runs on five hits while striking out six.

About the Buccaneers
Charleston Southern is 14-26 on the season and 4-11 in the Big South Conference. The Buccaneers are 3-14 in road games on the 2019 season.

As a team, the Buccaneers are hitting .254 with 26 home runs and 211 runs scored. Ryan Stoudemire leads the Buccaneers with eight home runs and 28 RBIs. Freshman Max Ryerson is second on the team with five home runs and 26 RBIs. Senior infielder Jason Miller is an on-base machine as he has 42 hits and 28 walks on the season. Miller has a .408 on-base percentage, and a team high 30 runs scored. Miller is also the only Buccaneer to play in all 40 games this season. Stoudemire, Miller, Reid Hardwick and Josh Litchfield each have over 40 hits on the season. Ryerson and fellow freshman Kyle Horton are each hitting .300 or better this season and have both played in at least 24 games.

Senior left-hander Cody Maw leads the Buccaneers with 57.2 innings pitched and has a 2-3 record. Seth Owens and Eddie Hiott have each made 23 appearances out of the bullpen. The duo has allowed a combined 41 runs. Freshman RJ Petit has struck out 27 batters in only 19.1 innings this season. As a staff the Buccaneers have pitched to a 7.93 ERA and allowed a total of 251 runs on the 2019 season.
