Track and Field Puts Together Impressive Day at Gamecock Invitational

COLUMBIA, S.C. – The UNC Asheville men's and women's track and field teams wrapped up action in the single-day Gamecock Invitational on Saturday, April 13 with impressive finishes.

BULLDOG BITES

Men's Highlights
In the men's 1500m, UNC Asheville had four competitors finish in the top 15. Sage Turner led the group with a seventh-place finish with a time of 4:03.32. Zach Boone finished two spots behind his teammate with a time of 4:04.13. Graham Parker finished in the 11th spot at 4:05.81. Thomas Little ran a time of 4:07.16, which was good enough for a 13th place finish.

Denley Joseph, Nick Roberts, Grant Lindsay and Tyree McFalling finished 18th overall in the men's 4x400m relay with a time of 3:28.15. 

In the men's 400m hurdles, Nick Roberts secured a top 20 finish at 56.80.

McFalling finished the men's 400m dash with a time of 49.10, which was good enough for a top 25 finish. The next closest Bulldog was Thorpe with a time of 54.30.

Joseph and Williams finished the men's 100m dash with just .01 seconds separating them as Joseph ran a 10.99 and Williams an 11.00.

In the men's long jump, Victor Mathuthu finished in the top half of the competitors with a jump of 6.51m. Mathuthu's most impressive accomplishment of the day was an eighth-place finish in the men's triple jump with a jump of 14.35 meters.

Jack Choiniere secured a top 10 finish in the men's shot put with a throw of 14.60 meters, which is now third place in UNC Asheville history.

Women's Highlights
Kindra Mingo was .4 seconds off of a top 10 finish in the women's 100m dash with a time of 12.37. Claudia Prieto Alcaide was eight spots behind Mingo with a finish of 12.60, while Asia Washington finished with a time of 12.74. Liz Crenshaw was the fourth Bulldog to run in the 100m dash and finished with a time of 13.10.

In the women's 400m dash, Desire Brown finished in the top half of all competitors with a 58.00. Khadeesha Crumbly wasn't far behind with a finish of 59.52. Bri Froehling was the final Bulldog to compete in the event and finished with a time of 1:05.38.

In the women's 800m run, Alyx Evans had an impressive 21st overall finish with a time of 2:23.73, while Corey McVay finished at 2:37.02. Kelley Petroski was right on their heels with her own finish of 2:44.74.

Two Bulldogs had a top 25 finish in the women's 1500m run. Kelley Coleman ran a 4:46.22 which was good enough for 17th place. Madeline Nichols finished 21st overall with a time of 4:53.36.

Three other Bulldogs ran in the 1500m. India Appleton finished at 5:05.68, Morgan Costelloe at 5:07.05 and Megan Brewer at 5:07.78.

The quartet of Brown, Crumbly, Mingo and Evans ran a 4:05.54 in the women's 4x400m relay, which was good enough for an impressive 13th place finish. The other Bulldog quartet of Crenshaw, Froehling, McVay and Mydison Askew finshed 17th with a time of 4.35.04.

Prieto finished in the top 15 in the women's long jump. The freshman finished 13th with a jump of 5.56m. Washington jumped 5.41m, while Askew jumped 4.84m.   

What's Next?
The UNC Asheville men's and women's track and field teams will be back in action next weekend at the two-day Duke Invitational in Durham, N.C. on April 19-20.
