Jordan-Brown Breaks Blocks School Record in Narrow Overtime Loss

HIGH POINT, N.C. – Junior center Brooke Jordan-Brown broke the UNC Asheville single-game record for blocks (seven), as the UNC Asheville women's basketball team narrowly fell at High Point, 82-81, in overtime to conclude the 2018-19 regular season
Jordan-Brown tallied seven blocks at High Point, which is a new program record. Tonisha Jackson and Wendy Beecher held the previous school record with six in a single game. Jackson accomplished the feat during the 1999-00 season, while Beecher posted six blocks during the 1987-88 season.
Sophomore Nadiria Evans also had a career day, as the guard finished the game with a career-high 21 points on seven field goals. That matched her single-game career best, which she set at Charleston Southern earlier this season. Her seven made field goals is a new single-game best for the guard.

Game Highlights
High Point opened the game red hot, as the Panthers took a 21-5 lead into the second quarter.
UNC Asheville's offense woke up in the second quarter, as five Bulldogs combined for 23 points. However, HPU still carried a double-digit lead into halftime, 40-28. In the second quarter, Ali Trani was strong, as she connected on two 3-pointers to go along with three free throws. Evans added six points, as four of those points came from the charity stripe.
The Bulldogs continued to chip away at the deficit, as they outscored the Panthers by five points in the third quarter. Jessica Wall, Sonora Dengokl and Evans all tallied six points to help trim the deficit.
Down by only seven points, 60-53, heading into the final quarter, the Bulldogs overcame the deficit, as they posted 21 points in the final quarter. High Point only tallied 14 points in the final stanza, which forced an overtime session tied at 74-all.
In the second half, three Bulldogs scored in double digits – Wall (13 points), Evans (13 points) and Dengokl (10 points). Along with her five second-half blocks, Jordan-Brown also corralled seven rebounds. Trani also contributed five boards.
In the five-minute overtime session, it came down to the wire. Down by just one point, 82-81, UNC Asheville had two looks to go ahead with time remaining. Dengokl missed a jumper with 22 seconds, while Zip Scott missed the go-ahead three-pointer as time expired. High Point corralled the final missed shot to seal the one-point win.
Jordan-Brown was phenomenal, as the junior posted a school record seven blocks. She played 26 minutes and connected on her only field goal attempt. She also added a team-best eight rebounds, including six defensive rebounds.
Offensively, Evans matched a single-game best, as she finished with 21 points. She went 7-for-10 from the hardwood.
Wall added 19 points in 41 minutes of action. The senior went 6-for-13 from the field and connected one three 3-pointers and four free throws. She also added four assists.
Dengokl poured in 16 points to round out the double-digit performances for the Bulldogs. The guard made seven field goals to go along with her four rebounds and an assist.
Trani just missed on a double-digit outing, as the senior guard totaled nine points. She was second on the squad with seven total rebounds.
Redshirt senior Tiffany Wilson netted four points and corralled six boards.
UNC Asheville falls to 16-13 overall and 11-7 in Big South play. High Point advances to 21-7 on the year and 13-3 in league action.
What's Next?
Despite the loss, UNC Asheville is still guaranteed a bye in the Big South Conference Tournament. The Bulldogs will figure out their opponent following the final league games on Saturday, March 9.
