Bulldogs Collect Dominating Road Win Over Longwood

FARMVILLE, Va. – UNC Asheville men's tennis picked up its 17th win of the season in a dominating 5-2 Big South Conference victory over Longwood on Sunday, March 31, 2019.
"It was a good response today from our guys after a tough loss yesterday," UNC Asheville men's tennis head coach Tom Hand said. "The No. 3 doubles team came up big for us by getting a good win and clinching the doubles point."
UNC Asheville (17-3, 4-1 Big South) opened up the match by claiming the doubles point with wins over Longwood (9-8, 1-4 Big South) at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles.
Oli Nolan and Sirawit Daosaengsawang collected the win at No. 2 doubles with a 6-2 win over Longwood's Rosen Naydenov and Marc Casasnovas. The tandem of Quinn Fender and Charlie Morkel secured the win at No. 3 doubles with a 6-3 victory over Longwood's Raisei Sakai and Guillermo Cagigas.
Henry Patten acquired his 14th win of the season in singles with a 6-4, 6-1 win over Amadeo Blasco at No. 1 singles. At No. 3 singles, Daosaengsawang earned a 6-2, 6-2 win over Sakai.
Morkel picked up a 6-2, 6-0 win over Naydenov at No. 5 singles and Leo Bierbaum bested Casasnovas 6-4, retired at No. 6 singles.
UNC Asheville will return home next week for their final two home matches of the season. The Bulldogs will first host Presbyterian on Wednesday, April 3 at 3 p.m. before hosting Hampton on Saturday, April 6 at 1 p.m.
Both matches will be played at the Asheville Racquet Club Downtown. The Bulldogs are currently an undefeated 8-0 on their home courts.
