Bulldogs Open Play at Highly-Competitive Briar’s Creek Invitational

FIRST AND SECOND ROUND RESULTS
JOHNS ISLAND, S.C. – The UNC Asheville women's golf team opened play on Monday at the highly-competitive Briar's Creek Invitational at The Golf Club at Briar's Creek.

First Round Highlights
Taylor Hinson opened the first 18 holes with a 2-over 74 score at The Golf Club at Briar's Creek. She sank a pair of birdies and totaled 13 total pars to lead the UNC Asheville team.
Adelyn Deery had the second-lowest opening round for UNC Asheville, as the junior inked a 7-over 79. She opened her round with a birdie on the par-3, 150-yard hole 17.
Baylee Evans was right behind Deery in the first 18 holes, as the rookie sank two birdies on holes 16 and 18.
Kellen Alsip rounded out the qualifying scores for UNC Asheville, as she carded a 10-over 82 on the first 18 holes.
Second Round Highlights
Hinson carded a 4-over 76 in her second round of the outing. She posted a birdie on the par 3, 128-yard hole 2. Overall, she sank 12 pars in the second round of the Briar's Creek Invitational. She currently sits at a team-best tied for 54th on the individual leaderboard.
Evans and Alsip each improved from their first rounds, as both Bulldogs etched a 6-over 78 round. Evans sank the most birdies in the second round for Asheville, as she inked three birdies. Two of those three birdies came on the back nine. Alsip also played well on the back nine, as she penciled a 1-over 37 from holes 10-18.
Deery stayed level from the first to second round, as she tallied her second straight 7-over 79 round.
Linna Brooks made a 10-stroke improvement from the first to second round, as the junior carded an 8-over 80 in the second round of play.
No. 23 Michigan State sits atop of the team leaderboard, as the Spartans hold a three-stroke advantage on Indiana. No. 25 Campbell is in third place with even-par 576.
Two players are in a tie for first on the individual leaderboard in Allyson Geer-Park of Michigan State and Ana Paula Valdes of Clemson. The two are currently at 8-under 136.
What's Next?
The third and final round of the Briar's Creek Invitational is set for a shotgun start at 9 a.m. The Bulldogs will be paired with Charleston Southern and individual players from participating schools.
