Track & Field Concludes Action at the Alan Connie Shamrock Invitational

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – To wrap up action at the Alan Connie Shamrock Invitational, the UNC Asheville men's and women's track and field teams posted impressive finishes on Saturday at the Doug Shaw Memorial Stadium.

Men's Highlights
In the men's 200m, Tyree McFalling led UNC Asheville, as the junior finished 21st with a 22.67 time. Denley Joseph was only two spots behind his teammate in 23rd. The rookie clocked a 22.74 time in the event.
McFalling again raced in the men's 400m, and the junior earned a top-20 finish. The sprinter finished with a 49.80 mark en route to a 17th-place finish.
In the 800 open, Blanton Gillespie and Jack Clemens both represented UNC Asheville. The Big South Scholar-Athlete of the Year Gillespie finished in 25th with a time of 2:06.35, and Clemens placed 33rd with a mark of 2:10.41.
Senior Matthew Barrera ran fast in the men's one mile run. The Bulldogs finished sixth overall out of 34 runners. Barrera clocked a 4:46.55 and was around one second away from moving into the top 5.
Thomas Little and Sage Turner raced in the men's 5000m, and the two Bulldogs finished within the top 25. Little paced the duo with a time of 15:42.71, as he finished 17th. Turner was six spots behind him with a time of 15:56.00, as the sophomore finished 23rd out of 56 runners.
Rookie thrower Jack Choiniere finished fourth in the men's discus. Choiniere made a throw of 45.01m, and he was only 0.80m from earning a medal.
In the men's triple jump, Victor Mathuthu earned another top-10 finish to his resume. He made a leap of 13.60m, which placed him seventh overall.
Women's Highlights
Three Bulldogs posted strong times in the women's 200m. Desire Brown led the trio with a time of 25.79, as the junior finished ninth overall. Freshman Kindra Mingo was two spots behind the upperclassman, as she finished 11th. The rookie ran a 25.90 and was only 0.08 seconds from moving into the top 10. Khadeesha Crumbly was the final Bulldog to race in the event, and she posted a time of 26.50.
Freshman Alyx Evans was the lone Bulldog in the women's 800m. The Wisconsin native finished ninth out of 29 runners. She clocked a 2:21.26.
In the women's 5000m, India Appleton placed 16th overall. The rookie distance runner clocked a time of 19:15.55, and she was just over three seconds away from jumping into the top 15.
Sophomore Morgan Costelloe posted an impressive finish in the women's 3000m steeplechase. She finished ninth overall with a time of 12:38.00.
UNC Asheville sent out a relay team to compete in the women's 4 x 100 relay. The four Bulldogs combined for a 48.39 time en route to a fifth-place finish out of 25 teams.
What's Next?
UNC Asheville will take two weeks off before traveling to Spartanburg, S.C. to compete in the two-day Terrier Relays. The meet begins on Friday, March 29.
