UNC Asheville Returns to Action at Terrier Relays

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – After a two-week break, the UNC Asheville men's and women's track and field teams return to action on Friday, as the Bulldog squads will compete in the two-day Terrier Relays.
BULLDOG BITES
Last Time Out – Alan Connie Shamrock Invitational
On the first day of the Alan Connie Shamrock Invitational, Zach Boone headlined the results for UNC Asheville, as the senior earned a top-10 finish in the men's 10,000m event. He posted a time of 33:04.93.
On Friday's portion of the three-day meet, freshman Huntyr Hopkins jumped her way into the record books, as the rookie made a leap of 1.55m in the women's high jump. That result is now tied for the fifth-best mark in UNC Asheville history.
Claudia Prieto Alcaide earned a top-5 finish in the women's long jump, as the rookie made a leap of 5.34m.
Senior Kelley Coleman posted a fast result in the women's 3,000, as she finished third in the event. She ran a time of 10:33.79 and was only a few seconds away from the first-place finisher.
Thomas Little had a strong performance for UNC Asheville in the men's 5,000m. He finished 17th overall with a time of 15:42.71.
On the final day of the meet, Jack Choiniere nearly medaled in the men's discus, as he made a toss of 45.01m. He was just 0.80m away from third place.
Victor Mathuthu represented the Bulldogs in the men's triple jump. He added another top-10 finish to his resume with a jump of 13.60m.
Sophomore Morgan Costelloe posted an impressive finish in the women's 3000m steeplechase, as she finished ninth overall with a time of 12:38.00.
Two Bulldogs posted strong times in the women's 200m. Desire Brown led the duo with a time of 25.79, as the junior finished ninth overall. Freshman Kindra Mingo was two spots behind the upperclassman, as she finished 11th. The rookie ran a 25.90 and was only 0.08 seconds from moving into the top 10.
Freshman Alyx Evans rounded out the individual top-10 finishes for UNC Asheville, as the rookie finished ninth out of 29 runners in the women's 800m. She posted a time of 2:21.26.
About the Terrier Relays
The Terrier Relays is a two-day meet that is hosted by Southern Conference member Wofford. The competition will be held at the Viking Track on the campus of Spartanburg High School.
Most of the events will be relays, but there will also be some individual competition in both track and field events.
The first day of the Terrier Relays is set for Friday, March 29. There will be 12 total events on the opening day and will begin at 2 p.m. with the women's hammer and men's shot put.
Saturday will house most of the events (36), including 12 field events and 24 running events. The first event on Saturday will be at 10 a.m. with the men's 5000m, and the first field event will be the men's javelin at 10:30 a.m. The final event of the two-day meet will be the men's and women's 4x400m at 4:45 p.m.
