UNC Asheville Continues To Hang On To Top Spot at Pinehurst Women’s Intercollegiate

Day Two Results
PINEHURST, N.C. – The UNC Asheville women's golf team continued to hold on to first place on the second day of the Pinehurst Women's Intercollegiate, as the Bulldogs shot a tournament-best 317 on Thursday at the Pinehurst No. 8 Golf Course.
UNC Asheville has three individuals in the top 10, as Baylee Evans still stands tied for fourth after 36 holes of action.

Second Round Highlights
As a team, the Bulldogs made a four-stroke improvement from the opening round, as they shot a 29-over 317. That round score was the lowest team outing so far in the three-day tournament. Asheville is still in first place and holds a five-stroke advantage on St. John's heading into the final 18 holes on Friday.
Evans (tied for fourth), Kellen Alsip (tied for sixth) and Taylor Hinson (tied for sixth) are the three Bulldogs within the top-10 individual standings. Adelyn Deery is just outside of the top 10, as the junior is in sole possession of 11th place.
Hinson had the best overall round for the Bulldogs on Thursday, as the sophomore shot a 4-over 76. With her seven-stroke improvement, she catapulted eight spots from the first to second round. Hinson was consistent on the first nine holes, as she parred all nine holes. She collected five on the back nine to end her second round.
Evans, who leads the Bulldogs on the player leaderboard, also played consistent on the second day of the tournament, as she also inked 15 total pars. She almost parred the final nine holes but bogeyed the par-4 hole 14. In the individual standings, the rookie is tied with one other player – Hanako Kawasaki of Boston University – with a 14-over 158.
Alsip was right behind Evans in the second round, as the junior etched an 8-over 80. She was one of two Bulldogs to collect a birdie on Thursday, as she collected a birdie on the 408-yard hole four. Alsip is tied with teammate Hinson and Zhangcheng Guo of Boston University.
Deery tallied the final qualifying score for Asheville, as she tallied a 10-over 82 score. She finished her outing sinking four straight pars and five on the last six holes.
Ami Gianchandani of Yale continues to hold the top individual spot at 8-over 152 (73-79). Kaitleen Shee of St. John's is only two strokes away from matching Gianchandani.

The final 18 holes of the Pinehurst Women's Intercollegiate is set to begin on Friday, March 15. UNC Asheville will start the final round at 8:50 a.m. on hole one, and the Bulldogs will be paired with St. John's and Boston University.
