Box Score
ASHEVILLE, N.C. – UNC Asheville men's tennis defeated Tusculum, 5-2, on Wednesday, Feb. 6, 2019, at the Asheville Racquet Club Downtown to remain undefeated in the 2019 spring season.
"The scorecard said 5-2, but that was a battle the whole way. Tusculum gave us a good fight today. They are a good team, and they competed well," UNC Asheville men's tennis head coach Tom Hand said. "We had some good performances today from some of our guys, particularly Olly Cull. He stepped up and got us to 2-0 quite quickly, but after that every one of those matches was a battle. Kudos to the guys for pulling it out. That was a good match for us, and we're looking forward to the weekend."
The Bulldogs (5-0) took the doubles point early by getting victories at No. 2 and No. 3.
In singles, Cull quickly grabbed a victory at No. 2 to give the Bulldogs an early 2-0 lead. The Bulldogs would then drop matches at No. 1 and No. 3 to allow Tusculum to tie things at 2-2.
Leo Bierbaum and Edward Colclough would both take their matches to three sets to pick up victories at the crucial No. 4 and No. 5 spots to secure the win for UNC Asheville. The Bulldogs would also get a victory at No. 6 for a final score of 5-2.
The Bulldogs will next welcome Chattanooga (2-3) to the Asheville Racquet Club Downtown on Sunday, Feb. 10, at 3 p.m.
