Box Score

ASHEVILLE, N.C. – UNC Asheville men's tennis defeated Appalachian State 6-1 Sunday to remain undefeated and improve to 9-0 on the season.

"It was not our best day of tennis, but we did enough in the end to come away with a 6-1 win, which is always a good thing," UNC Asheville men's tennis head coach Tom Hand said. "We have got two more tough matches next weekend with Wofford and our first conference match against Winthrop, so obviously our focus now shifts to those. Hopefully we can get some nice weather this week so we can get some practice outside, but there is a lot to learn from today's match."

UNC Asheville men's tennis won the doubles point behind the efforts of the undefeated and nationally top-ranked duo of Henry Patten and Oli Nolan at No. 1, along with a win from Quinn Fender and Charlie Morkel at No. 3.

In singles, Morkel would make it 2-0 early with a 6-4, 6-0 victory at No. 2. Nolan would follow that up with a 6-4, 6-2 victory at No. 1 to make it 3-0 Bulldogs. Fender, at No. 3, would win in three sets to get the clinching point for the Bulldogs.

Appalachian State would then take the match at No. 5, but the Bulldogs would get two more victories at No. 4 and No. 6 for the 6-1 victory.

The Bulldogs will next begin a six-match road swing next weekend when they travel to Spartanburg, S.C. on Saturday, March 2, to face Wofford at 2 p.m. A day later the Bulldogs will open their Big South Conference season on the road at Winthrop at 1 p.m.
