Bulldogs Ready For CCSA Championships

LYNCHBURG, Va. – After a month break from competition, the UNC Asheville swimming & diving team is ready to compete in the four-day 2019 CCSA Championships, which is held inside the Liberty Natatorium.

Last Time Out – Liberty
In their final regular season meet of the 2018-19 season, the UNC Asheville swimming & diving team recognized nine seniors – Haley Bennison, Madison-Grace Bristow, Katie Brown, Elizabeth Conte, Emma Nelson, Morgan Rulevich, Hannah Stuart, Sydney VandenBerg and Jessica Woolfe.
One of the biggest highlights of the meet was UNC Asheville sweeping the 1m diving event. Freshman diver Kerigan Martin claimed the top spot with 141.53 points. Sophomore Megan Almond followed with 128.55, and Veronica Judson finished third with 108.30.
On Saturday's portion of the dual meet, Skylar Rogan earned a first-place finish in the 1000 freestyle, as the junior bested the runner-up by over 16 seconds. Adee Weller followed with a second straight victory, as she won the 200 freestyle with a 1:55.48 time.
Rulevich claimed a top-2 finish in the 100 breaststroke. The senior swam a 1:05.66 and was under one second away from matching the winner.
UNC Asheville had a strong finish in the 200 butterfly, as three Bulldogs finished 2-3-4. Catherine Allen placed second with a 2:06.96. Anna Nabors and Aleta Jewell finished third and fourth, respectively.
One event later, Rulevich earned second-place points in the 50 freestyle, as she swam a 24.49.
Several events later, Rulevich earned another medal in the 200 breaststroke. The senior from Lake Wylie, S.C. finished third with a 2:23.52.
Weller earned Asheville nine team points with a first-place finish in the 500 freestyle. She clocked a 5:12.01 time.
UNC Asheville claimed 13 team points in the 100 butterfly, as Liberty swam four people in exhibition. Madison Rogan had the second-fastest overall time with a 57.92. Allen finished second with a 1:00.59, while seniors Bennison and Bristow also had strong showings.

The 2019 CCSA Swimming & Diving Championships will be held in Lynchburg, Va. on the campus of Liberty. The meet will take place from Feb. 20-23 at the Liberty Natatorium.

In last year's CCSA Championships, the Bulldogs broke a program for the most points scored – 663. Also highlighting last year's championship meet was breaking 11 individual school records and three relay school records.
What's Next?
The Bulldogs will wait and see if they receive invitations to compete in the NCAA Championships and/or the 2019 National Invitational Championships. The NCAA Championships take place at the University of Texas, while the National Invitational Championships is hosted by Cleveland State.
