Swimming & Diving Breaks School Record for Most Points Scored at CCSA Championships

LYNCHBURG, Va. - With a record-breaking 820 team points, the UNC Asheville women's swimming & diving team wrapped up action at the 2019 CCSA Championships inside the Liberty Natatorium.

Team Standings
UNC Asheville earned 820 team points and finished sixth overall. The 820 points scored broke the program record for the most points scored at the CCSA Championships. The previous-best mark was 663, which the Bulldogs earned at the 2017 CCSA Championships.
The sixth-place finish is the highest ever for UNC Asheville at the CCSA Championships.
Day Four Preliminary Highlights
200 Backstroke
Senior Emma Nelson was the only Bulldog to earn a spot in the finals, as she earned a berth in the C Final. She clocked a 2:07.64 time and placed 22nd in the prelims.
Fellow classmate Katie Brown also competed in the same event and clocked a season best 2:20.48 time.
100 Freestyle
Adee Weller swam fast, as she qualified for a spot in the B Final. The junior posted a lifetime best of 52.38 and finished 16th overall in the prelims.
Freshman Hannah Bruno and senior Elizabeth Conte rounded out the finals qualifications for UNC Asheville. Bruno placed 27th in the 54.01, while Conte clocked a 54.02 time.
Seniors Jessica Woolfe and Haley Bennison swam in the 100 freestyle. The two classmates nearly clocked the same time. Woolfe finished with a 56.10 and Bennison posted a season best 56.75 mark.Â
Maren Oliver rounded out the finishes for the Bulldogs. The rookie posted a season best 58.11 time.
200 Breaststroke
Senior Morgan Rulevich highlighted the preliminary half on Saturday, as she finished fourth in the prelims. The Lake Wylie, S.C. native finished with a 2:19.81 and was under a second away from finishing in the top 3.Â
Rookies Alexis Baker and Lily Sullivan finished behind one another, as they earned a spot in the C Final. Baker finished 19th in the prelims, while Sullivan placed 20th. Baker earned a 2:27.35, and Sullivan posted a 2:27.49.
Three other Bulldogs earned berths in the C Final, as Amelia Ham, MacKenzie Humphrey and Ellis Nelson all earned those titles. Ham finished 24th with a 2:29.12. Humphrey (2:29.92) and Ellis Nelson (2:31.76) placed 26th and 27th, respectively.Â
Skye Lewis nearly missed on a finals appearance, as the sophomore clocked a 2:34.08 time.Â
Marlee Burgess also swam in the 200 breaststroke, as she posted a lifetime best of 2:35.65.
200 Butterfly
Madison Rogan and Catherine Allen each finished in the top 6, as they both represented UNC Asheville in the A Final in the 200 butterfly. Rogan finished fifth in the prelims with a lifetime best 2:02.65, while Allen placed sixth with a mark of 2:03.15.
After breaking a freshman record in the 100 butterfly yesterday, Anna Nabors earned a spot in the B Final in the 200 butterfly. The freshman also posted a lifetime best of 2:06.36 and finished 15th in the prelims.Â
Sophomore Aleta Jewell rounded out the finals berths, as she claimed a spot in the C Final. She clocked a lifetime best 2:10.56 mark and finished 23rd in the prelims.Â
Senior Madison-Grace Bristow was the final Bulldog to race in the 200 butterfly, and she finished with a season best 2:21.78 time.
Day Four Finals Highlights
1650 Freestyle
Junior Skylar Rogan nearly medaled in the women's 1650, as she swam a season best 17:01.49. The Athens, Ga. native finished fourth overall in the event and earned 29 team points
Sydney VandenBerg finished in the event, as she clocked a season best 17:57.00 time. Jewell also competed in the distance event, and the sophomore clocked a season 18:16.43.
200 Backstroke
Emma Nelson was the lone Bulldog to race in the 200 backstroke finals, and the senior finished 25th in the event. Emma Nelson finished with a 2:08.32 time.
100 Freestyle
Weller was the lone Bulldog in the B Final, and the junior finished 16th overall with a lifetime best mark. She posted a 52.34 time, which was 0.04 seconds faster than her prelim time.
Conte and Bruno finished behind one another, as Conte placed 26th and Bruno finished 27th. Conte improved on her preliminary time by 0.11 seconds, and Bruno finished with a 54.47 mark.
200 Breaststroke
Despite improving her time from the preliminary round, Rulevich finished sixth overall in the A Final. The Lake Wylie, S.C. native clocked a 2:19.59 time and earned 27 points.
Five Bulldogs raced in the C Final. Sullivan and Baker were atop of the C Final standings, as the duo combined for 18 team points. Sullivan made a vast improvement from the prelims, as the rookie clocked a season best 2:25.32 time in the finals. Baker finished right behind her teammate with a lifetime best 2:26.09. That time was over a second faster than her prelim time.
Humphrey (2:29.91), Ellis Nelson (2:30.00, lifetime best) and Ham (2:30.53) also raced in the C Final, as they combined for eight team points.Â
200 ButterflyÂ
Allen and Madison Rogan finished sixth and seventh, respectively, as they combined for 53 team points. Allen clocked a 2:03.68, and Madison Rogan finished with a 2:03.76 mark in the A Final.
Nabors was the lone Bulldog in the B Final. The rookie swam a lifetime best 2:06.16 time, which was a 0.20-second improvement from her prelim time.
Jewell, who also raced in the 1650 freestyle, finished 25th overall with a time of 2:14.03.
Relays
400 Freestyle Relay
In the lone relay on Saturday, Rulevich, Baker, Weller and Skylar Rogan represented UNC Asheville. The four Bulldogs combined for a 3:29.03 mark en route to a fifth-place finish.Â
What's Next?
The Bulldogs will wait and see if they receive invitations to compete in the NCAA Championships and/or the 2019 National Invitational Championships. The NCAA Championships take place at the University of Texas, while the National Invitational Championships is hosted by Cleveland State.
