Bulldogs Prepped for Big South Indoor Championships

LYNCHBURG, Va. – After a two-week long break from competition, the UNC Asheville men's and women's track and field teams return to action, as the Bulldog squads prep for the Big South Conference Indoor Championships inside the Liberty Indoor Track Complex.

Last Time Out – Carolina Challenge

On the first day of the two-day Carolina Challenge, Asia Washington and Zach Boone headlined the results for UNC Asheville. Sophomore Washington made a jump of 5.38m in the long jump, which stands as the third-longest jump in program history. Boone posted a fast time in the men's 3000m (8:36.83), which made that the fifth-fastest time at UNC Asheville.

UNC Asheville had strong performances in both the men's and women's 400m run. Desire Brown represented the Bulldogs on the women's side, and she finished 45th out of 106 runners. Tyree McFalling placed 35th out of 108 runners following his 49.89 time.

Kelley Coleman rounded out the strong finishes for Asheville on the first day, as the senior finished in the top 10 in the women's 3000m. She clocked a 10:41.24 time.

On the final day of the Carolina Challenge, the Bulldogs' men's and women's distance medley relay teams shined. On the men's side, Graham Parker, McFalling, Sage Turner and Boone combined for a 10:19.06 time en route to a third-place finish. Megan Brewer, Khadeesha Crumbly, Alyx Evans and Coleman ran a 12:53.03. The four Bulldogs finished fifth overall.

Victor Mathuthu rounded out the top-10 finishes for UNC Asheville, as the sophomore placed seventh in the men's triple jump.

About the Big South Indoor Championships

The Big South Men's and Women's Indoor Championships is a two-day meet that is hosted by former Big South member Liberty. The competition will be held in the Liberty Indoor Track Complex in Lynchburg, Va. All nine Big South members are slated to participate on the women's side, while seven schools will compete on the men's side.

The first day of the Big South Conference Championships is Friday, Feb. 15. The first event will start at 10 a.m. with pentathlon events. The first event outside of the heptathlon and pentathlon will be the men's pole vault and women's long jump at 1 p.m.

Saturday will house all final events. The first event starts at noon with heptathlon events. The first field event will be the men's high jump, women's weight throw and women's triple jump at 1 p.m. The men's and women's mile will be the first track event on the final day.

What's Next?

UNC Asheville will wait to see if any athletes are invited to compete in the NCAA National Championships, which is held from March 8-9. The two-day national tournament will be hosted in Birmingham, Ala.
