Bulldogs Wrap Up Regular Season at Home Against Presbyterian

11.05.2019 | Men's Soccer

ASHEVILLE – UNC Asheville's men's soccer team closes out its regular season when it hosts Presbyterian in a 6 p.m. matchup, Wednesday, at Greenwood Field.

The Bulldogs (3-12-1, 2-5 Big South) enter the season finale after falling on the road at Longwood, Saturday, 3-1. The Bulldogs took a 1-0 lead in the first half, but surrendered a couple quick goals to trail going into halftime. Longwood was able to secure a late goal for the final margin.

The Blue Hose took last season's matchup, 5-1, at home; however, the last time the two teams faced off in Asheville, they battled to a 2-2 draw in the season finale.

The Bulldogs are tied for sixth in the Big South Conference standings with Radford, though Radford owns the tiebreaker against the Bulldogs. The Blue Hose are in a tie with Winthrop for fourth in the standings with the top six teams advancing to the Big South Conference Tournament.

The match will not be streamed, but fans can follow the action via live stats HERE.

Offensive Attack
Ten different Bulldogs have scored at least one goal so far this season, with junior Tyson Hichman leading the way with four. His goal in the home opener against VMI proved to be the game-winner.

Sophomore Nate Evans had a strong start to league play, scoring the game winner in each of the first two Saturday road conference matches. His goal against USC Upstate proved to be the only one of the match, and he scored the first of three for the Bulldogs against Winthrop, October 5.

Sophomore Izaiah Vignali also has scored a pair of goals on the season after he opened the scoring in Saturday's match at Longwood with a strike from the top of the box. He scored his first goal of the season, October 2, in a back-and-forth affair against High Point.

As a team, the Bulldogs scored three goals at home against High Point in a 4-3 defeat before taking down Winthrop, 3-0. It was the first time since 2010 the Bulldogs had scored three goals in consecutive games.

In addition to Hichman, Evans and Vignali, Kyle Adams, Colin Daughtry, Frank Morales, Andrew Rossetti, Noe Varner, Tanner Gilliam and Dino Dziergas have each recorded a goal for the Bulldogs, while Adams leads the team with three assists.

Scouting the Blue Hose
Presbyterian is 5-11-1 on the season and 3-3-1 in Big South Conference play. They enter Wednesday's matchup after a 2-1 overtime loss at home against Gardner-Webb, Saturday.

Cesar Sancho leads the team with six goals on the season, while Sergio Pinto has scored four. Riccardo Turcis (3), Luca Ziegler (2) and Zacharia Diallo (2) each have scored multiple goals on the season, while Ziegler leads the way with three assists.

Valentin Kliebe has been the primary starter in goal for the Blue Hose, recording 43 saves while allowing 31 goals for a .581 save percentage.
