CHARLOTTE – After two career performances helped lead UNC Asheville's volleyball team to a pair of victories over the weekend, senior right side Julia Borges has been selected as the Big South Conference's Co-Player of the Week, the league announced Monday.

She shares the weekly honor with Sarah Colla of Campbell.

The Rio de Janeiro, Brazil native ignited a Bulldogs comeback in Saturday's matchup against Presbyterian. Trailing two sets to one, and down six points in the fourth set, Borges put on a magnificent show, recording 10 kills in the fourth set to help tie up the match. She had kills on three of the final four points, including set point.

She then responded with two critical kills as the Bulldogs came back from a deficit in set five to win the match against the Blue Hose. In total, Borges set career-highs with 23 kills and 19 digs for her fifth double-double of the season. She became the first Bulldog to eclipse 20 kills in a match since Cara Guthrie against USC Upstate in 2018.

Borges started the weekend with an efficient performance, Friday night, as the Bulldogs beat Charleston Southern, 3-0, for the team's eighth sweep of the season. She led the team with 12 kills, but was effective with her swings, finishing the match with a career-best .500 hitting percentage.

Additionally, Borges led the team with four block assists and also chipped in seven digs.

In total over two matches, Borges finished with 35 kills, 26 digs, six total blocks (2 solo, 4 assists), two service aces and 41 points.

It is the second weekly conference award of the season for Borges, who was named the Defensive Player of the Week, September 16. She is the first Bulldog to earn Player of the Week distinction since Guthrie in the final regular-season week of 2018.
