Alsip’s Top 10-Finish Propels Bulldogs to Fifth Place at NKU Fall Invitational

UNION, Ky. – With a Top 10 finish from senior Kellen Alsip, UNC Asheville's women's golf team vaulted to a fifth-place finish at the Northern Kentucky Fall Invitational, Tuesday.
The Bulldogs entered competition in the second and final round in seventh place, but moved past Illinois-Chicago and NKU with a strong showing, posting a second-round team score of 312, tied for third-lowest on the day. It also represents the lowest score for a round the Bulldogs have played this season.
Alsip led the way, firing a 75 during the second round, which was tied for the second-lowest score of the day. Her overall score of 152 put her in a tie for seventh place on the tournament's individual leaderboard. She recorded 25 pars over 36 holes, putting her in a tie for second among the participants and just one short of Amelie Svejda of IUPUI, who finished second overall in the tournament.
Like Alsip, sophomore Baylee Evans put together two sub-80 rounds, carding a 78 during her second round. She had a strong start, recording four birdies in her first nine holes – including a string of three straight. She finished the tournament with five birdies overall, which led the team and tied for seventh among tournament participants. She finished the tournament tied for 12th with a two-round score of 155.
Senior Adelyn Deery finished as the second-lowest scorer, Tuesday, posting a round of 77 to improve by five strokes from her Monday total. Starting at the 10th hole, she played the back nine at five-over-par, but strung together nine pars to finish out the tournament. Her total score of 159 had her tied for 23rd among individuals.
Senior Linna Brooks finished as the Bulldogs' fourth scorer, putting consecutive rounds of 82 together. She hit for birdie on the par-4 16th hole, and closed out her round with a birdie on the par-4 10th hole.
The Bulldogs will take a couple of weeks before heading to Presbyterian for the Blue Hose Match Play, Oct. 21-22.
