Bierbaum Picks Up Two Singles Victories at Big South Fall Invitational

CLINTON, S.C. – Leo Bierbaum picked up a pair of singles victories in the back draw of the Big South Fall Invitational in the second day of action, Saturday.
After falling in his opening round singles match, Friday, Bierbaum began his redemption tour with a strong first match, defeating Fernando Bernardes of USC Upstate, 6-1, 6-3 to advance to the back draw quarterfinals.
He then made a move to the semifinals of the back draw with a 6-3, 6-3 victory against Gardner-Webb's Sebastian Harris.
Charlie Morkel also picked up a victory in the back draw round of 16, needing three sets to dispatch of Rodrigo Magalhaes from Radford. After falling, 6-7, in a tight first set, Morkel rebounded with a 6-4 victory in set two and closed out the third set, 10-2.
Morkel and Oli Nolan made it to the doubles quarterfinals, but were taken out by Maxwell Benson and Daniel Stenger Valdes of the host, Presbyterian, in a nail-biter, 8-7 (7-5).
Bierbaum will return to action, 8:30 a.m., Sunday, when he faces off against Yehven Sirous of Radford in the back draw semifinals.
