UNC Asheville Men’s Tennis Starts Fall Campaign This Weekend

ASHEVILLE, N.C. – A busy fall for UNC Asheville men's tennis opens this weekend at the 51st Southern Intercollegiate Championships at the Dan Magill Tennis Complex.
The 2018 fall schedule features numerous events with UNC Asheville sending different representatives to different events.
Two-time Big South Player of the Year Henry Patten will represent the Bulldogs on the national level at different events.
Patten, who closed out the 2017-18 athletic year ranked 60th in the final Oracle/ITA Division I Rankings last year, will be looking to repeat at the Southern Intercollegiate Championships.
Patten was actually declared co-champion in the 2017 event along with then nationally-ranked No. 14 Tim Sandkaulen of Ole Miss. The two were supposed to meet up in the final, but due to the forecasted weather in the area from Hurricane Irma it was decided to declare co-champions.
The 2018 fall schedule will see the Bulldogs take everyone to the UNCW Seahawk Invitational (Sept. 28-30), the UTC Steve Baras Fall Classic (Oct. 26-28) and the Wake Forest Invitational (Nov. 9-11).
The Bulldogs enter the 2018 fall campaign coming off a historic 2017-18 athletic year that saw UNC Asheville men's tennis reach new heights.
Patten became just the second player in Big South history to advance to the second round of the NCAA Men's Tennis Singles Championship with a thrilling 4-6, 6-3, 6-4 win over Alex Lebedev of Notre Dame on May 23.
The win was the first win for the UNC Asheville men's tennis program in the NCAA Men's Tennis Singles Championship.
In addition, among many team wins on the year the Bulldogs knocked off then 39th-ranked Clemson at the Asheville Racquet Club Downtown on March 21, 2018.
