Bulldogs Narrowly Drop Road League Match at Hampton

HAMPTON, Va. – In match that was extremely tight it was Hampton that narrowly picked up a 3-1 (25-21, 20-25, 26-24, 25-23) win over UNC Asheville on Thursday, Sept. 27.
There were 19 ties and eight lead changes throughout the match.
Hampton (6-7, 1-2 Big South) opened the match by taking a 25-21 first set win, but the Bulldogs battled back into the match with a 25-20 win in the second set.
In the third set Hampton looked to be heading toward a win in the game up 23-20, but UNC Asheville battled back to tie things at 23-all. Hampton would be able to hold off the Bulldogs though with a 26-24 win in the set.
The fourth set was back and forth the whole way with the Pirates narrowly earning a 25-23 win to claim the win over UNC Asheville (5-7, 0-2 Big South).
Cara Guthrie just missed on a double-double in the match with 11 kills and eight digs.
Julia Loveday and Guthrie led UNC Asheville with two blocks each in the match. Loveday also had seven kills. Ansley Rooks just missed on double-digit kills with nine.
Madisen Zyburt continued her strong play in the 2018 season with 23 digs in the narrow loss to the Pirates. Kailey Hackett finished the match with a team-best 22 assists.
Hampton had three players with double-digit kills with Megann Delgado leading the way with 33 kills.

"We overcame a lot to stay competitive in the match and push our opponent to the limit.
