Patten to Represent UNC Asheville and Big South at Oracle ITA Masters

Oracle ITA Masters Men's Singles Draw
MALIBU, Calif. – Senior Henry Patten of UNC Asheville men's tennis will compete in the 2018 Oracle ITA Masters.
The tournament will be held September 20-23 in Malibu, Calif. at the Malibu Racquet Club and Pepperdine University.
The 2018 Oracle ITA Masters will again feature 32-player singles competitors per gender. Invitations were sent out to one man and one woman from each Division I Conference to participate with criteria similar to the NCAA Tournament being used.
Patten will represent not only UNC Asheville, but the Big South Conference on the men's side of things. Lauren Proctor of Winthrop will represent Big South women's tennis.
In the first round of the Oracle ITA Masters, Patten will take on Lorenzo Fucile of Grand Canyon. Fucile was a first-team All-WAC selection last season after going 14-6 overall.
Patten and Fucile will face off at Pepperdine at 5:30 p.m. EST on Thursday, Sept. 20. No court has been assigned just yet, but fans will be able to watch live HERE.

Patten enters the Oracle ITA Masters coming off a doubles win with teammate Oli Nolan at the Southern Intercollegiate Championships.
Patten was ranked among the best nationally and in the tough Carolina Region in the final rankings last season.
Patten closed out his junior season ranked 60th nationally in the final Oracle/ITA Division I Rankings. He was ranked 10th in the final Carolina Region Rankings.
Patten became just the second player in Big South history to advance to the second round of the NCAA Men's Tennis Singles Championship with a thrilling 4-6, 6-3, 6-4 win over Alex Lebedev of Notre Dame on May 23.Â
The win was the first win for the UNC Asheville men's tennis program in the NCAA Men's Tennis Singles Championship.
After the first round win over Lebedev, Patten ended his year with four top-35 wins in the 2017-18 athletic year.
The Manningtree, Essex, United Kingdom, native was named the Big South Conference Men's Tennis Player of the Year for the second consecutive season.
After battling injuries early in the spring of 2018, the junior finished the regular season at 11-3 overall. His winning percentage of .786 was the best among those who played 10 or matches at No. 1 singles in the Big South.
Patten ended league play 5-1 at No. 1 singles.
In addition to his honoring as Big South Player of the Year, Patten was also chosen first-team in singles and doubles. A double major in Management and Economics with a 3.566 grade-point average, Patten was also chosen to the Big South All-Academic Team for the second consecutive season.
Patten commenced the 2018 NCAA Singles Championship with an impressive 46-7 record all-time in singles in dual matches. He also owns an impressive 45-7 all-time mark in doubles.
Patten was just the sixth player in Big South men's tennis history since 2006 to earn a spot in the NCAA Division I Men's Tennis Singles Championships.
Patten also put together the best fall in program history in 2017, ending his historic fall campaign at the 2017 Oracle ITA National Fall Championships, held Nov. 1-5 at the JW Marriott Desert Springs Resort & Spa.
Patten advanced to the Oracle ITA National Fall Championships by taking the ITA Carolina Region title on Tuesday, Oct. 17.
The ITA Carolina Regional championship was the second title of the fall for Patten along with sharing the singles title at the 2017 Southern Intercollegiate Championships.
