Two Late Goals Lead Davidson Past UNC Asheville Men’s Soccer on Tuesday
09.18.2018 | Men's Soccer
DAVIDSON, N.C. – Two late goals allowed Davidson to pick up a 3-1 win over UNC Asheville men's soccer on Tuesday, Sept. 18 at Alumni Stadium.
Davidson (3-3-0) would score the opening goal of the match in the first minute with Henry Howell scoring off a rebound in the box just 47 seconds into the match. Lucas Hauth picked up the assist on the rebound goal for Davidson.
The Wildcats would own that same 1-0 lead over UNC Asheville (1-6-1) at the halftime break.
The second half commenced though with the Bulldogs owning the run of play.
UNC Asheville's strong play to start the second half would eventually materialize into Lane Carroll scoring his second goal of the season off a low cross from Luiz Felipe Dantas. Carroll's goal in the 50th minute tied things up at 1-1 in the match.
The Wildcats would take the lead back with two goals over a two-minute stretch with Jaylen Thompson first scoring the go-ahead goal in the 82nd minute before Ned Morrissett scored Davidson's third goal of the match in the 84th minute.
Davidson finished the match with a 19-8 advantage in shots. The Bulldogs had one corner kick in the match, while Davidson had eight.

Tied for Team Lead
Lane Carroll after his goal in the match at Davidson is now tied for the team lead with Izaiah Vignali with two goals on the season.
Quotable
"It was completely self-inflicted," UNC Asheville men's soccer head coach Mathes Mennell said after the match. "Davidson found a goal early in the game and kind of had us up against it in the first half, but we then made adjustments and came out in the second half in a really good mindset. We controlled the run of play from the outset of the second half and created chances, but then we conceded late in the match and then turned around and allowed another. It was really disappointing.
"I liked the way though we came out in the second half. Certainly though, we've got to find a way of not inflicting these goals upon ourselves. Full credit to Davidson. We made mistakes and they punished us for it. It's now on to Longwood and Big South play at home on Alumni Weekend. It should be a great game and one of huge importance for us."
#ThePursuit Man of the Match
Miles Peay played 80 strong minutes for UNC Asheville in the match and for his efforts he was chosen as #ThePursuit Man of the Match by the coaching staff.
