Hinson in Second, UNC Asheville in Third After Opening Day at MSU Greenbrier Invitational

LEXINGTON, Ky. – Following play on Monday at the Greenbrier Country Club, sophomore Taylor Hinson is second individually, while the UNC Asheville women's golf team is in third after the first two rounds at the MSU Greenbrier Invitational.

Hinson leads the six-person Bulldog squad, as the Belmont, N.C. native is sitting second individually in the 43-person field. The sophomore carded the second-lowest overall score in the first round, which was a 1-over 73. She concluded her opening day at the MSU Greenbrier Invitational with a 5-over 77. She currently has a one-stroke lead on Gypsie Hutchinson of Morehead State.
Juniors Kellen Alsip and Adelyn Deery also had a fantastic opening day. Both Bulldogs are in the top-9 as individuals. Alsip is in sole possession of seventh place at 9-over 153 (77-76), and Deery is tied for ninth with Amalia Shahzan of Cincinnati with an 11-over 155 (78-77) score.
Playing as an individual, Linna Brooks carded a 23-over 167 (84-83) in the first two rounds at the Greenbrier Country Club.
As a team, UNC Asheville is in third place. However, the Bulldogs are only four strokes away from matching second-place Austin Peay State and 13 strokes away from matching first-place Cincinnati.
Asheville opened the tournament with a 25-over 313 score, and that score put the Bulldogs in sole possession of second place. UNC Asheville concluded the opening day of the outing with a 26-over 314 to sit in third place with a 51-over 627.
Cincinnati holds a nine-stroke lead to pace the six-team field.
Individually, Rikke Svejgaard of Kentucky leads the pack with an even-par 144 (74-70) score on Monday.
What's Next?
UNC Asheville will conclude play at the MSU Greenbrier Invitational on Sept. 18. All six teams will tee off at 9 a.m. at the Greenbrier Country Club.
The Bulldogs are paired with the Bearcats and Governors to finish play at the MSU Greenbrier Invitational.
