Career Night from Zyburt Helps Lead UNC Asheville to Mountain Rivalry Win Over Western Carolina

ASHEVILLE, N.C. – A career night from Madisen Zyburt helped lead UNC Asheville volleyball to a 3-1 (25-21, 24-26, 25-23, 25-21) mountain rivalry home win over Western Carolina at the Justice Center on Tuesday, Sept. 11.
Zyburt finished UNC Asheville's win with a career-best and match-best 33 digs. She also had four assists.
As a team, UNC Asheville (5-5) finished with 80 digs with three in total recording double-digit digs with Cara Guthrie and Kasey West each finishing with 13 digs.
Guthrie collected another double-double in the match with a match-best 18 kills to go along with her 13 digs.
Three Bulldogs finished with double-digit kills with Ansley Rooks collecting 11 and Julia Loveday finishing with 10. Rooks also had three blocks, while Loveday had two.
Kailey Hackett finished with 31 assists to lead the Bulldogs in the category. Carter Kennedy ended the match with 16.
As a team, UNC Asheville had eight service aces in the match with Guthrie, West and Kennedy each notching two. Hackett and Zyburt also had an ace in the match.
Hackett just missed on a double-double of her own with nine digs in addition to her 31 assists. Kennedy also had eight digs.
Western Carolina's (6-5) Hannah Price just missed on a triple-double in the match with 26 assists, 13 digs and nine kills.

Zyburt Surpasses 1,000 Digs/Career Day
Madisen Zyburt's career day allowed her to surpass 1,000 digs in her career. She now has 1,009 in her career. Zyburt's 33 digs were the fourth-most in a single four-set match in UNC Asheville volleyball history in the rally scoring era (2008-present). She now has six 20 or more dig performances in four-set matches in her Bulldog career. Zyburt has two 30 or more dig performance in her Bulldog career now.
Double it Up
Cara Guthrie's 18 kills and 13 digs in the win over Western Carolina allowed her to pick up her third consecutive double-double.
Series
Since making the move to NCAA Division I, UNC Asheville now owns a 24-17 advantage over the Catamounts.

"I think our team had fun tonight," UNC Asheville volleyball head coach Frederico Santos said. "You could tell. I think we all had fun tonight, and we commented on that with our team in the postgame. They felt loose and they felt relaxed and hopefully this a memory they can have moving forward in every match that we play and know that we play better when we are relaxed and having fun.
"As much as we feel the pressure to win every game because we always want to win and not be on the losing end, I think tonight is just a different performance from our team than we have seen all season. I'm very happy. I'm happy for them and I'm happy for the great crowd here tonight because they got to see a very high-level match. I'm very pleased moving forward."

The Bulldogs will open their 2018 Big South Conference schedule at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 18 when they travel to Charleston, S.C. to face Charleston Southern. The Bulldogs swept the season series with the Buccaneers last season.
