Deery Breaks Individual Program Record; Bulldogs Surge in Second Round of NKU Fall Classic

BATAVIA, Ohio – Behind a new individual program record from Adelyn Deery and a 16-over 300 second-round score, the UNC Asheville women's golf team surged in the second round to place fifth after the first day of the NKU Fall Classic at the Elks Run Golf Club.

Highlights
In the opening round of the NKU Fall Classic, freshman Baylee Evans led the Bulldogs. The Lancaster, S.C. native inked a 5-over 76 in the first round of her collegiate debut.
Taylor Hinson and Kellen Alsip each opened the tournament with a 6-over 77.
Highlighting opening day for the Bulldogs was Deery, as she broke the school record for an individual 18-hole round score. The junior carded a 1-under 70 in the second round, which improved her by 37 positions after the opening round.
In the second round, the Lancaster, Pa. native sank five total birdies en route to a new school record.
Deery made a 12-stroke improvement from the first round, which moved her into a tie for 17th individually.
Also in the second round, Janie Thomas inked a 5-over 76. She posted an even-par 36 on the front nine of the round.
Hinson and Alsip each carded a 6-over 77 on the final 18 holes on Monday.
As a team, the Bulldogs nearly posted the second-ever sub-300 round score in program history. UNC Asheville penciled a 16-over 300 in the second round of the tournament. In the first round, the Bulldogs posted a 31-over 315. With a 47-over 615, UNC Asheville is in 5th place in the 13-team field.
Individually Deery leads the Bulldogs after the first day of the NKU Fall Classic. Hinson and Alsip are right behind their teammate, as both Bulldogs are tied for 22nd. Evans and Thomas round out the top-30 placements for Asheville, as both are tied for 29th.
Cincinnati currently leads the field at 16-over 584, and IUPUI is 12 strokes behind the Bearcats.
Vanessa Manrique of Cincinnati holds a four-stroke lead on IUPUI's Marion DeBove and Cincinnati's Anika Hitt. Manrique is 2-under 140, while DeBove and Hitt are 2-over 144 after two rounds of play.
What's Next?
UNC Asheville will conclude play at the NKU Fall Classic on Sept. 11. All 13 teams will tee off at 8:30 a.m. at the Elks Run Golf Club.
The Bulldogs are paired with Morehead State, Oakland and five individuals from different schools to finish play at the NKU Fall Classic.
