Final Draw
ATHENS, Ga. – Two wins over SEC opponents on Monday propelled the Bulldog doubles duo of Oli Nolan and Henry Patten to the title at the 51st Southern Intercollegiate Championships at the Dan Magill Tennis Complex.
The day started with the eighth-seeded UNC Asheville men's tennis duo securing an impressive 8-2 win over Georgia's tournament second-seeded duo of Jan Zielinski and Robert Loeb.
The finals match against Oscar Mesquida and Adam Sanjurjo of Arkansas started outside, but rain forced the match to finish in the Georgia indoor facility.
Nolan and Patten captured a hard-fought 4-6, 6-3, 10-8 win over the tournament top-seeded and nationally 49th-ranked Arkansas duo to claim the title.
The doubles championship marked the second straight year that UNC Asheville men's tennis has picked up a title at the prestigious fall event.
Last year, Patten in singles was actually declared co-champion in the 2017 event along with then nationally-ranked No. 14 Tim Sandkaulen of Ole Miss. The two were supposed to meet up in the final, but due to the forecasted weather in the area from Hurricane Irma it was decided to declare co-champions.
