Bulldogs Fall to Host Chattanooga in Opening Match of Chattanooga Classic

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. – UNC Asheville dropped its opener at the Chattanooga Classic to host Chattanooga, 3-1 (16-25, 25-14, 25-22, 25-16), at Maclellan Gymnasium on Friday, Aug. 31.
The match opened with UNC Asheville (2-2) taking an easy 25-16 win over Chattanooga (2-2) in the first set, but the Mocs would respond by winning the next three sets to take the match.
Reigning Big South Player of the Week Cara Guthrie continued her strong start to the 2018 season with 14 kills, seven digs and one ace in the loss to Chattanooga.
Madisen Zyburt led the Bulldogs in digs with 12, while both Ansley Rooks and Julia Loveday had four blocks for the Bulldogs.
Kailey Hackett led the way for the Bulldogs with 14 assists. Carter Kennedy ended her day with 10 assists.
Dani Szczepanski ended the win for Chattanooga with 16 kills.
The Bulldogs will next face new Atlantic Sun Conference member North Alabama at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 1. UNC Asheville will then conclude its time at the tournament by taking on Tennessee State of the Ohio Valley Conference at 4:30 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 1.
