ASHEVILLE, N.C. – UNC Asheville Director of Athletics Janet R. Cone announced Ericka Schneider as the second head coach in the history of the UNC Asheville women's golf program on Friday, Aug. 3, 2018.

A former professional golfer, Schneider takes over the reins of the UNC Asheville women's golf program after spending the last year as an assistant coach and, most recently, as the interim head women's golf coach at UAB.

"We are really excited to be able to hire such a rising star in the coaching profession like Ericka," Cone said. "Her background as a student-athlete in the SEC along with her professional golfing experience plus working in Division I at UAB make her a great fit for what we are building with our women's golf program. I am thrilled to have her join our family and I look forward to Bulldog fans getting the opportunity to meet her as we begin preparations for the 2018-19 women's golf season."

Schneider is ready to get started at UNC Asheville and is "incredibly grateful to UNC Asheville Director of Athletics Janet R. Cone for this opportunity to be the next head women's golf coach."

"I cannot wait to be a part of the UNC Asheville Bulldog family," Schneider said. "Everything from the city of Asheville to all this young team has accomplished in its short two years of existence has me eager and ready to start the season. There is endless potential to tap into with this program and team, and I am so thankful for the opportunity to continue to build on the momentum that's been generated."

During her time at UAB, Schneider was involved in all facets of the program where she even helped to develop the UAB Blazer Birdie Club to help fundraise.

"I owe a special thanks to UAB, especially (former head coach) Kim Wilcox and (current head coach) Ryan Ashburn," Schneider said. "I will forever be thankful for their guidance and leadership."

Schneider spent three years playing professionally on the Symetra Tour before joining the UAB women's golf program. She played in 23 tournaments while on tour. During her time on tour she also was involved in facilitating junior clinics at each event and she helped with charity meet and greets at each tour stop. She also attended pro-am parties and entertained sponsors while on tour.

In addition, from 2015-17, Schneider served as a playing professional and instructor at Waterlefe Golf and River Club in Bradenton, Fla. During her time with the club, Schneider was involved in tournament operations and planning and she provided private and group lessons as well as helped facilitate adult and junior clinics. Schneider also worked at The First Tee of Sarasota/Manatee as a camp leader and coach during the summers of 2011 and 2012.

Before competing on the Symetra Tour, Schneider first played collegiately at Daytona State where she was a two-time National Junior College Athletic Association All-American. She helped lead Daytona State to consecutive NJCAA national titles in 2010 and 2011. Schneider finished second individually at the NJCAA national tournament in 2011.

After her two years at Daytona State, Schneider spent the final two years of her college career at Ole Miss where as a senior she competed in all 12 tournaments and collected three top-20 finishes. She finished fourth as a senior at the LSU Golf Classic.

Schneider is a 2014 graduate of the University of Mississippi. The Bradenton, Fla. native obtained her undergraduate degree in Integrated Marketing Communications.

Schneider takes over a UNC Asheville women's golf program entering just its third season of existence.

The Bulldogs have made huge strides over the course of the first two seasons of the program, having already won two tournaments.

The first team victory was during the inaugural season in the 2016-17 season at the Oyster Shuck Match Play in Charleston, S.C. This past season, the Bulldogs won the first tournament of the season – the NKU Fall Classic – en route to posting the program's lowest 54-hole tournament score ever.

Overall, the Bulldogs have finished in the top-5 in four tournaments and collected 15 top-15 individual finishes.
