BULLDOG BITES

About UNC Asheville

The Bulldogs return to the pitch after posting a 6-10-2 overall record for the 2017 campaign. To start last year's season, the Bulldogs were red-hot by going 3-1-1 in their first five games. Two of the three victories – versus Wofford and at Jacksonville – came in overtime.

From the 2017 roster, 11 Bulldogs return to the roster. Of those returners, seven totaled at least 600 minutes on the pitch last season – Skyler Chillson, Taylor Barber, Maura Coolbaugh, Bella Iorio, Ellie Stone, Grace Kwiatkowski and Bryson Lee.

UNC Asheville welcomes 11 newcomers – 10 freshmen and one transfer. Of the newcomers, two are goalkeepers, four are forwards, four are midfielders and one is a defender.

Scouting Queens

Out of the South Atlantic Conference, Queens posted an 8-2 mark in league play and a 12-3-3 record overall last season.

The Royals appeared in the SAC Championship game but fell in penalties to Anderson. Despite the heartbreaker, they earned a berth to the NCAA Division II Southeast Region Championship. Queens claimed an overtime victory on UNC Pembroke, 1-0, to advance to the second round of the tournament, where they fell 2-0 to Carson-Newman.

Kenzie McDowell – who is the lone Bulldog transfer for the 2018 season - played for the Royals last season. The incoming sophomore played in four games and totaled 96 minutes during her rookie campaign.
