Fifteen Bulldogs to Play Summer Ball in 2018

ASHEVILLE, N.C. – Fifteen UNC Asheville baseball players have been assigned to play summer ball during the 2018 offseason.
Of the 15 Bulldogs, five will play in the Coastal Plains League, two in the Southern League, four in the New England Collegiate Baseball League, three in the Shenandoah Valley League and one in the North Carolina American Legion.
Andrew Friedholm, Danny Wilson, Joe Gruszka, Chris Troost and Blake Brown have all been signed to play in the Coastal Plains League. Friedholm and Catalano will be teammates on the Forest City Owls, which play out of Forest City, N.C. Wilson, Gruszka and Troost will continue to play on the same team, as the trio will play for the Wilmington Sharks out of Wilmington, N.C. Brown will be the lone UNC Asheville representative on the Gastonia Grizzlies out of Gastonia, N.C.
Jake Madole and Beau Nichols will also continue to be teammates during the summer, as the Bulldog duo will play for the Mooresville Spinners. As a freshman right-handed pitcher, Nichols appeared in 18 games, including three starts for the Bulldogs. Madole appeared in 41 of the 51 games in 2018, which included 29 starts.
Also playing on the same team during the summer is Carmine Pagano, Brandon Lankford and Tripp Barfield. The three Bulldogs are playing for the Sanford Mariners, which plays out of the NECBL. The Mariners play at Goodall Park, which is located in Sanford, Maine. Pagano and Lankford were every day starters for Asheville, as they combined for 100 starts. Barfield was a key reliever as a rookie, as he appeared in 17 contests. Greg Gasparro, who started on the mound in a team-high 13 games in 2018, signed to play with the North Adams SteepleCats out of North Adams, Mass.
Kole Harris, Anthony Cuozzi and Tyler Serricchio will also continue to be teammates during the summer, as the threesome have all signed on to play for the Woodstock Riverbandits out of the Shenandoah Valley League. Harris and Serricchio were key starters for the Bulldogs in 2018, as they combined for 85 starts. Cuozzi played in 18 games, including three starts, during his freshman campaign.
To round out the summer assignments, Trey Jernigan will play for the Pitt County Post 39 squad out of the NC American Legion. The freshman right-handed pitcher appeared in 12 games during his rookie season for the Bulldogs. He recorded 11 strikeouts in 12 innings of work during the 2018 season.
