04.05.2018 | Women's Golf

CHARLOTTE, N.C. –Taylor Hinson was tabbed the Big South Conference Freshman of the Week on Thursday, and the honor was her fourth Rookie of the Week award and fifth overall honor of her career.

The league office officially announced the honor on April 5.

This past weekend, Hinson joined the UNC Asheville record book, as the freshman was one of two Bulldogs to record a sub-par 18-hole round score. She inked a 1-under 71 on the second day of the Mimosa Hills Intercollegiate, as Adelyn Deery was the other Bulldog that carded a 1-under 71 in the same round.

Overall, Hinson finished tied for 4th with a 1-over 145 (74-71) in the two-day tournament in Morganton, N.C. The finish marked the second time in her career she has finished in the top 5, and the finish was her best finish since September 2017 at the NKU Fall Classic, where she placed third in her first career tournament.

At the Mimosa Hills Intercollegiate, she inked five birdies and 26 pars in the 36-hole outing.

In her last five rounds, the Belmont, N.C. native has carded a 74 or lower, which was highlighted by the 1-under 71 round on Tuesday at the Mimosa Hills Golf Course.

Hinson helped break another program record on Tuesday, as UNC Asheville posted the first-ever sub-300 team round score (11-over 299). The previous best was a 13-over 301 second round score at the NKU Fall Classic.

Hinson and the Bulldogs return to the links on April 13, as they will compete in the three-day Big South Conference Championships in Ninety Six, S.C.
