Bulldogs Travel to Charlotte to Compete in 2018 Johnson C. Smith University Invitational

ASHEVILLE, N.C. – For the fourth straight weekend of competition, the UNC Asheville men's and women's track and field teams travel to Charlotte, N.C. to battle in the two-day 2018 Johnson C. Smith University Invitational.
Last Time Out
In the second day of the highly-competitive Florida Relays, Kelley Coleman and Blanton Gillespie earned career-best times in their respective event.
Coleman posted an 11:10.71 in the women's 3000m steeplechase, which was over 12 seconds faster than her previous-best time, and Gillespie clocked a 3:58.58 in the men's 1500m, which was 0.15 seconds quicker than his previous-best mark.
On the final day of the meet, the Bulldogs nearly broke a school record in the women's distance medley. Consisting of Kamyrn DeCarmo, Jasmine Cox, Coleman and Phoebe Schneider, the foursome inked a 12:30.36 in the event. That time was only 0.02 seconds away from matching the UNC Asheville record.
In the men's distance medley relay, the Bulldogs earned a top-10 finish, as they posted a 10:13.06 in the event, and in the men's 4 x 200m relay, UNC Asheville placed 18th with a 1:31.73 time.
About The Meet
The 2018 Johnson C. Smith University Invitational is a two-day meet and is held on the campus of Johnson C. Smith in Charlotte, N.C.
The first event of the meet is the men's hammer throw at 3 p.m. on Friday, and the first track event on the opening day is the 4 x 100m relay.
Saturday will commence at 9 a.m. with the men's discus, and the final event of the meet will be the men's and women's 4 x 400m relay.
