Hinson, Deery in Top 15 After First Two Rounds of 2018 Big South Championship

NINETY SIX, S.C. – Freshman Taylor Hinson and sophomore Adelyn Deery are pacing the UNC Asheville women's golf team, as the two Bulldogs are in the top 15 individually after the first two rounds of the 2018 Big South Conference Championship at The Patriot Golf Club.

Highlights

Hinson is currently ranked 11th out of 44 individuals. The freshman started the conference tournament with a 5-over 77, and then she capped off the opening day with a 2-over 74. In total, the Belmont, N.C. native inked four birdies and 22 pars. Three of her total birdies came in the second round and on the front nine.

Deery is tied for 15th in the conference tournament, as she is tied with Kyra Horlock of Longwood with a 10-over 154. In both rounds, the sophomore posted 5-over 77s, which included an impressive 24 total pars. In fact, the Lancaster, Pa. native posted 14 total pars on the front nine in the first two rounds.

Sophomore Becca Black is right behind her teammates, as she is tied for 22nd. Black carded a 13-over 157, which was highlighted by a 6-over 78 second round.

As a team, the Bulldogs are in sixth place, but they are only nine strokes away from matching second-place Charleston Southern. UNC Asheville posted a 44-over 630 in the two-round opening day.

Nationally-ranked Campbell is leading the tournament, as the Camels are 7-over 583 in the first two rounds. They posted a 5-over 293 to open the tournament and capped off the opening day with a 2-over 290.

Isabell Ekstrom of Campbell leads the 44-person field with a 1-under 143 (73-70). Stacey White of Campbell is in second at even-par 144, and Julie Reinertsen of Winthrop is third with a 2-over 146.

What's Next?

The final 18 holes of the postseason tournament will tee off at 8 a.m. for the Bulldogs. UNC Asheville is paired with High Point and Winthrop on the final day, and Linna Brooks will kick off the day for Asheville on Saturday.
