04.13.2018 | Women's Soccer

ASHEVILLE, N.C. – After eight seasons at the helm of UNC Asheville women's soccer, Michelle Demko is leaving the program to become the next head coach at George Washington.

"We truly appreciate the efforts of Michelle for UNC Asheville women's soccer," UNC Asheville Director of Athletics Janet R. Cone said. "For the past eight years, Michelle has been an important part of our athletic department, stewarding our women's soccer program the right way both on and off the field. Speaking on behalf of the entire UNC Asheville athletics department, we wish Michelle nothing but continued success."

Demko leaves the program with 51 career wins, which makes her the second all-time winningest coach in program history. She garnered her illustrious 50th career victory at Greenwood Field this past season with a 4-3 come-from-behind victory over Presbyterian. In the game, the Bulldogs posted two first-half goals from Katie Tuorto and Caroline Houser. Skyler Chillson netted the third goal of the game, and Erika Snyder posted the game-winner in the 89th minute.

The eight-year head coach saw 15 players earn Big South postseason awards during her tenure. Four of the 15 awards under Demko's belt were earned this year. Courtney Naber and Houser were named to the Big South Second Team. Chillson was tabbed to the All-Freshman Team, and Maura Coolbaugh garnered All-Academic Honors.

Demko earned her first career win at the helm on Sept. 19, 2010, when she guided the Bulldogs to a 2-1 victory over Francis Marion. Mary Beale and Dana Sroka netted the two goals for the Bulldogs in the one-goal win.
