ASHEVILLE, N.C. - The UNC Asheville women's basketball team will begin its journey on Friday, March 9, as it looks to defend its Big South Conference Tournament Title. The Bulldogs open the tournament with a showdown versus No. 6 Campbell inside the Vines Center in Lynchburg, Va. at 8 p.m.

BULLDOG BITES

Last Time Out

The UNC Asheville women's basketball team celebrated Senior Day in style, as Jessica Wall drilled the game-winning three-pointer with seven seconds left in regulation to lift the Bulldogs past Gardner-Webb, 62-60, in the regular-season finale on Saturday, March 3.

Bronaza Fitzgerald, Khaila Webb and Wall all posted double-figures in points. Fitzgerald led the Bulldogs with 19 points on 7-for-10 shooting. She also grabbed 12 boards, which marks her 18th career and 14th double-double of the season. Wall drilled five 3-pointers, which was a game high. The junior also tallied three assists. Webb contributed 13 points, as she went 6-for-13 from the field.

Between Zip Scott, Wall and Webb, the Bulldog trio combined for 12 of the 14 assists.

Freshman guard Nadiria Evans recorded seven points and five rebounds. The five boards was only one shy of matching a career high, which she set earlier this season versus Warren Wilson.

In the game, there were nine ties and 10 lead changes. The Bulldogs led for most of the game, as they were ahead for over 26 minutes in the contest.

The Runnin' Bulldogs also had three players in double-figures, as Huntsman led the GWU offense with 22 points to go along with 13 rebounds.

Three Bulldogs Receive Postseason All-Conference Honors

Fitzgerald and Webb were both chosen All-Big South Conference on Tuesday, March 6. Fitzgerald was selected as a first-team selection, while Webb was a second-team choice. In addition, Tiffany Wilson was selected to the Big South Women's Basketball All-Academic Team.

Fitzgerald Named Co-Player of the Week

Senior center Fitzgerald was named Big South Conference Co-Player of the Week on Monday, March 5, for her performance this past week versus Presbyterian and Gardner-Webb.

In the two-game week, the Danville, Va. native averaged 21.5 points and 12 rebounds per game. In total, she connected with 43 points on 17 made field goals, while also corralling 24 rebounds in 58 minutes of action.

In the mid-week game at Presbyterian, Fitzgerald set a single-game career high by netting 24 points. She also matched a single-game high by connecting with 10 field goals on 11 attempts in Clinton, S.C. She also grabbed 12 rebounds and totaled an assist versus the Blue Hose.

On Senior Day in Asheville, the senior center posted 19 points and 12 rebounds in the regular-season finale versus the Runnin' Bulldogs. She went an impressive 7-for-10 from the hardwood, while also recording a block and five made free throws.

With her two double-doubles this week, Fitzgerald now has 18 career and 14 double-doubles this season.

It was the second time this season the Danville, Va. earned Conference Player of the Week honors.

Scouting the Camels

Campbell enters postseason play 15-14 and 8-10 in Big South Conference play. Being one game over .500, it guarantees the Camels at least a .500 season. In their last three games of the season, the Camels went 2-1 with wins over Winthrop and Gardner-Webb.

Second-Team All-Conference selection Summer Price paced the Camels in scoring (14.9 ppg), field goals made (154), 3-pointers made (63), steals (43) and minutes per game (35.6). MaKala Rouse was tabbed Honorable Mention All-Conference, as she averaged 7.9 ppg (points per game) and 5.9 rpg (rebounds per game). Freshmen forwards Ashlyn Hampton and Kyra Davis were named to the All-Freshman Team, as they averaged 5.0 ppg and 5.9 ppg, respectively.

All-Time History Versus Campbell

Friday's contest will be the 42nd all-time meeting between the two clubs, as the Camels hold the narrow 21-20 advantage. The Bulldogs have won three straight head-to-head games versus the Camels, including a 64-55 victory in the quarterfinal round of last year's conference tournament.

During the season series versus the Camels, Fitzgerald averaged 14 ppg and 10.5 rpg. She also totaled two blocks and three steals, while averaging 24.5 minutes. She shot an impressive .545 percent from the field (12-for-22). Webb and Wall each averaged over 6.0 ppg, as they combined for 25 points in the two meetings this year.

On Campbell's side of the two-game series, Rouse averaged 14 ppg, as she only played in one head-to-head game. Price (9.5 ppg), Hampton (7.0 ppg) and Davis (7.0) all averaged 7.0 ppg or higher against the Bulldogs.
