03.28.2018 | Men's Tennis

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – For the fourth time in his career, UNC Asheville men's tennis standout Henry Patten has been selected as the Big South Men's Tennis Player of the Week.

The league office made the official announcement on Wednesday, March 28, 2018.

Patten has been named Player of the Week twice this season. He also garnered weekly laurels on Feb. 27, 2018.

Patten garnered Player of the Week honors from the league office twice last year (Feb. 1 and March 8) en route to winning Big South Player of the Year honors. In total, Patten has collected plaudits from the conference office six times in his career, as he was also named Freshman of the Week twice (March 30 and April 6) in the 2016 season.

Last week, the nationally 69th-ranked Patten helped lead UNC Asheville to a 4-2 win over 39th-ranked Clemson on Wednesday, March 21, at the Asheville Racquet Club Downtown.

The Bulldog No. 1 doubles duo of Patten and Olly Cull collected a statement win at the No. 1 spot with a 6-1 victory over the nationally 22nd-ranked Clemson tandem of Alex Favrot and Simon Baudry. UNC Asheville's No. 1 doubles duo is currently a perfect 9-0 on the season.

The Manningtree, Essex, England, native then easily bested Baudry 6-1, 6-0 at No. 1 singles. The win was Patten's second over Baudry in the 2017-18 athletic year. Patten also bested Baudry 6-4, 6-2 in the ITA Carolinas Regional semifinals in October of 2017 before eventually taking down Favrot 6-3, 6-1 in the finals to take home the region crown.

Patten and the UNC Asheville men's tennis team look to keep up their winning ways next when they play host to league foe Presbyterian College at 3 p.m. on Wednesday, March 28, at the Asheville Racquet Club Downtown.

UNC Asheville (6-8, 1-2 Big South Conference) hosts Presbyterian College (5-11, 1-1 Big South Conference) having won its last three matches.
