Track and Field Gears Up for Weems Baskin Invitational

Meet Schedule
ASHEVILLE, N.C. – Following a successful meet to open the outdoor season, the UNC Asheville men's and women's track and field teams will travel to Columbia, S.C. to compete in the two-day Weems Baskin Invitational beginning on Friday, March 23, at the Sheila & Morris Cregger Track.
Last Time Out
To open the outdoor schedule, the Bulldogs had several strong performances at the Yellow Jacket Invitational. The biggest highlight of the meet was breaking the school record in the men's 4 x 100m. Tyree McFalling, Hunter Koike, Kimani Anderson and Victor Mathuthu posted a 42.38 time, which was 0.29 seconds faster than the previous mark.
Koike also had two top-10 finishes last weekend in the 100m and 200m. In the 100m, the senior recorded a 10.92, and in the 200m, he posted a 21.78, which was only 0.05 seconds away from matching a personal best.
Kayli Nichols also had a top-10 finish, as she placed 10th in a highly-competitive 100m hurdles event. The senior posted a 14.55, which was only 0.15 seconds from moving into the top 5 in the event.
Mathuthu finished seventh in the men's long jump with a leap of 6.74m.
Heather Grober also posted a top-10 finish, as the freshman clocked a 1:05.01 in the women's 400mH.
Dominic Collichio posted a 3:50.00 time in the 1500m, which placed him 13th.
In the women's 5000m, Kelley Coleman finished 20th with a 18:09.57.
About the Weems Baskin Invitational
The two-day outdoor event begins on Friday and will be held at the Sheila & Morris Cregger Track.
The first event on Friday will be at 9 a.m. with the men's javelin and the women's hammer. The first track event on Friday will commence at 3 p.m. with the women's 400m.
The final day of the meet is Saturday, and the first events of the day (men's discus, women's shot put, women's triple jump, men's triple jump and women's high jump) will begin at 9 a.m. The first track event will be the women's 1500m with the final event of the meet beginning at 6:15 p.m. with the 4 x 400m relay.
