ASHEVILLE, N.C. – Big South Conference regular-season champion and tournament top-seeded UNC Asheville men's basketball bowed out of the 2018 Big South Men's Basketball Championship with a 69-64 semifinal loss to fifth-seeded Liberty on Friday, March 2, at Kimmel Arena.

UNC Asheville's season is not done with the Bulldogs next set to compete in the National Invitation Tournament.

UNC Asheville (21-12) was down 6-2 early to the Flames, but a 10-0 run shortly thereafter allowed the Bulldogs to take a 12-6 lead with 13:25 remaining in the first half.

The Bulldogs would own their first double-digit lead of the game at 25-15 with five minutes left in the first half after back-to-back three-pointers by Raekwon Miller and MaCio Teague.

UNC Asheville would go on to take a double-digit lead into the halftime break at 38-26.

The Bulldogs had two in double figures at the break in Miller and Teague, who both had 11.

UNC Asheville closed out the first half shooting 42.9 percent (12-of-28) as a team. The Bulldogs knocked down six of their nine three-point attempts (66.7 percent) in the first half.

Liberty (20-13) would open the second half by outscoring the Bulldogs 17-10 over the first nine and a half minutes to pull back within five at 48-43.

The Flames would own a 57-56 lead with 3:34 to play in the contest.

Liberty would go ahead by as many as 10 with 33 seconds to play, but the Bulldogs would not go down without a fight with Asheville trailing by just three at 67-64 with 15 seconds left in the game after a Miller three-pointer.

That would prove to be as close as the Bulldogs would get in Liberty's five-point victory.
