Hinson Paces Bulldogs in Highly-Competitive Briar’s Creek Invitational

JOHNS ISLAND, S.C.Taylor Hinson paced the UNC Asheville women's golf team on Monday, as the freshman finished the first two rounds of the Briar's Creek Invitational tied for 30th.

First and Second Round Highlights

Hinson had the best individual finish for the Bulldogs, as the rookie is tied for 30th after the first 36 holes of play. She carded six birdies and 22 pars in total on Monday, and in her opening round, she inked three birdies from holes 3 to 6. The Belmont, N.C. native opened play with a 1-over 73, and she capped off the first day of the tournament with a 2-over 74.

Adelyn Deery had the second-best finish for UNC Asheville, as she posted a 6-over 78 and 2-over 74 in the first two rounds. She is currently tied for 56th with two players from Kansas.

As a team, UNC Asheville sits 16th with a 43-over 619 (312-307). The Bulldogs are currently out-pacing Big South Conference rival Charleston Southern by three strokes.

No. 29 North Carolina currently holds a one-stroke lead on No. 40 Campbell after the first 36 holes of play. The Tar Heels are 11-under 565 (286-279), while the Camels are 10-under 566 (282-284)

Kelly Whaley of North Carolina holds the top spot on the individual leaderboard, as she is 9-under 135 (68-67). Desiree Anderson of Campbell is two strokes behind the Tar Heel, as Anderson is 7-under 137 (73-64).

What's Next?

The final round will start at 8 a.m. on Tuesday at The Golf Club at Briar's Creek. The Bulldogs begin on holes 16 to 18B, and they will be paired with Charleston Southern and individual players.
