UNC Asheville Competes on Final Day of Yellow Jacket Invitational

ATLANTA – The UNC Asheville men's and women's track and field teams competed at the Yellow Jacket Invitational on Satuday, as the Bulldogs posted several strong individual finishes at the George C. Griffin Track.
Highlights
To start the final day of the meet, Victor Mathuthu finished seventh in the men's long jump, as he made a leap of 6.74m.
In one of the highlights of the meet for UNC Asheville, Tyree McFalling, Hunter Koike, Kimani Anderson and Mathuthu broke the school record in the men's 4 x 100m. The foursome recorded a 42.38, which edged the previous school record by 0.29 seconds.
Dominic Collichio had the best finish for the Bulldogs in the men's 1500m, as the senior runner posted a 3:50.00. That time placed him 13th in the 29-person field. Thomas Little rounded out the top-20 finishes for the Bulldogs, as he placed 18th with a 4:05.27.
Kayli Nichols had one of the best finishes for the women's track and field team, as she placed in the top 10 in the highly-competitive 100m hurdles event. Out of 31 runners, Nichols finished 10th with a 14.55, which was only 0.15 seconds from moving into the top 5.
In the men's 400m, McFalling and Anderson finished 16th and 17th, respectively. McFalling posted a 49.71, and Anderson finished 0.25 seconds behind his teammate.
Koike finished in the top 10 of the men's 100m. He posted a 10.92, which tied him 10th in the 35-person field.
Kamryn DeCarmo placed 25th in the women's 800. The sophomore clocked a 2:26.08 in the highly-competitive field.
Heather Grober had an outstanding finish in the women's 400mH, as she finished ninth. The freshman clocked a 1:05.01, which was under one second away from moving into the top 5 in the event.
Koike recorded another top-10 finish, as he placed 10th in the men's 200m. He clocked a 21.78, which was only 0.05 seconds away from matching a personal best.

"It was a pretty good start for the outdoor season today. We had the vast majority of our kids pick up where they left off from the indoor season, which is a promising start considering the training we've been doing lately. This meet will serves us well as we head into South Carolina next week."

What's Next?
The Bulldogs take a week off, as they prepare for the Weems Baskin Relays. The two-day meet begins on March 23 and is hosted by South Carolina in Columbia, S.C.
