Deery Tied Eighth Individually; Bulldogs Sixth after Day One at Bradley Spring Invitational

FARMERS BRANCH, Texas – Following the first two rounds at the Bradley Spring Invitational, Adelyn Deery paced the UNC Asheville women's golf team, as she sits tied for eighth, and the Bulldogs are sixth after the first two rounds at the Brookhaven Country Club.
First Two Rounds Highlights
Sophomore Deery had the best 18 holes of her collegiate career, as she recorded a 1-over 74 in the second round of the Bradley Spring Invitational. Her previous-best round was a 75, which she had carded three times in her career. In the second round of the tournament, the Lancaster, Pa. native sank 15 pars to go along with a birdie on hole 15. In her first round, Deery carded a 6-over 79, after sinking two birdies in the opening 18 holes.
Kellen Alsip is just outside of the top 15, as she is tied for 16th at 9-over 155. She opened the two-round day with a 2-over 75. The sophomore etched a trio of birdies, including a pair of birdies from holes 2-5. She rounded out her day with a 7-over 80 in the second round.
Freshman Taylor Hinson is tied for 39th, after shooting back-to-back 6-over 79 rounds. The Belmont, N.C. native recorded three birdies in the first 36 holes of action.
Janie Thomas and Becca Black rounded out the top-5 individual finishes for the Bulldogs, as they sit 43rd and tied for 44th, respectively.
As a team, the Bulldogs are in sixth place out of 16 teams. The Bulldogs' lowest round came in the first 18 holes, as they tallied a 20-over 312 in the opening round. In the second round of the tournament, UNC Asheville posted a 21-over 313. Asheville is only three strokes from matching fifth place Illinois State and four strokes away from matching fourth place NIU.
Cincinnati and Houston Baptist are tied for first after the first 18 holes of play. The two schools are tied at 27-over 611. Akron is only one stroke behind the two teams, as the Zips posted a tournament-low round of 5-over 297.
Individually, Jacinta Pikunas of Akron leads the 91-person field. The Zip sits at 1-over 147, while Lexi Brooks of Houston Baptist is one stroke behind Pikunas.
What's Next?
The Bulldogs will conclude play at the Bradley Spring Invitational on Tuesday, March 12. The final 18 holes commence at 9 a.m., and the Bulldogs will be paired with Missouri State and NIU.
