CHARLOTTE – Sophomore Becca Black and freshman Taylor Hinson earned Big South Conference honors on Friday afternoon as Black was named Golfer of the Week and Hinson was tabbed Freshman Golfer of the Week.
Black was the lone Bulldog to go undefeated this past weekend as she went 3-0-1 at the Mid-American Match Play Challenge in Lakewood Ranch, Fla.
In the first round, Black won 4&3 over Eastern Michigan's Julia Stevenson. She concluded the first day as the only Bulldog to win her individual head-to-head over No. 1 seeded Kent State.
On the final day, she won her third round, 1UP, against Ohio's Marissa Balish and concluded the outing versus Bowling Green State's Jessica Madry, all square.
This marks the third Golfer of the Week honor for the 2017 Big South All-Freshman member. She earned two Freshman Golfer of the Week honors during her rookie campaign last year.
Hinson also had a strong showing in her first match play tournament of her college career. She finished the two-day outing 2-1-1 with victories over EMU's Preaw Sripatrprasite and BGSU's Nichole Cox.
In the opening round of the tournament, the Belmont, N.C. native cruised past Sripatrprasite, 4&2, as she claimed two points on holes 15 and 16 to earn the head-to-head victory.
In the final two rounds, she halved with Ohio's Lily Pendy, but she rebounded in the final round with a 3&2 win over Cox. In the victory, she won three holes after making the turn to win her second head-to-head victory of the outing.
The Freshman of the Week honor was Hinson's second rookie honor and third Player of the Week honor for the Belmont, N.C. native.
