ASHEVILLE, N.C. - Hoping to even the regular-season series versus Presbyterian, the UNC Asheville women's basketball team travels to Clinton, S.C. to square off with the Blue Hose on Tuesday, Feb. 27, inside the Templeton Center at 7 p.m.
Last Time Out
For only the second time this season, the UNC Asheville women's basketball suffered a Big South Conference road defeat, as the Bulldogs fell to Longwood, 67-54, on Saturday inside Willett Hall.Â
Bronaza Fitzgerald tallied her 16th career and 12th double-double of the season, as the center totaled 20 points and 13 rebounds. The senior made six of the team's 17 field goals, and she went 8-for-11 from the free-throw line. She totaled six offensive rebounds, which allowed the Bulldogs to tally 20 second-chance points.Â
Khaila Webb was Asheville's second-leading scorer, as she netted 16 points (all of which came in the second half). She corralled four boards to go along with three steals and a pair of assists.Â
Jessica Wall and Zip Scott combined for 12 points, three rebounds and five assists.Â
Dominating the Big South
UNC Asheville is 11-5 in the Big South Conference this season. The Bulldogs opened conference play with a 6-1 mark, which included a five-game winning streak. With its 11 wins in conference play, it marked the second time the Bulldogs have won 11 or more games in league play.Â
In Big South games, Fitzgerald, Webb and Wall have been the backbone for the Bulldogs. Fitzgerald leads the team with 14.5 points per game (ppg), while Webb (14.1 ppg) and Wall (10.3 ppg) are second and third on the squad, respectively.Â
The Bulldogs have a scoring margin of +5.3 in league games, which includes holding conference opponents to 56.2 ppg. More impressively, the Bulldogs are shooting .413 percent from the field in the Big South, including .330 percent behind the three-point arc. UNC Asheville also averages 6.1 more rebounds than league foes and makes 2.3 more free throws as well.Â
Scouting the Blue Hose
Presbyterian enters the final mid-week game of the regular season with a 10-17 overall record and a 7-9 mark in the Big South. Inside the Templeton Center, the Blue Hose are 6-6.Â
PC has three key players to watch - Cortney Storey, Kacie Hall and Janie Miles. Storey leads the team with 15.2 ppg, but Hall is right behind Storey, as Hall averages 10.8 ppg. Miles averages 9.8 ppg, and she leads the team with 4.4 rebounds per contest. Storey also paces the squad in both total assists (161) and total steals (56). All three Blue Hose have started in at least 26 games this season.
All-Time History Versus PC
Tuesday's contest marks the 25th all-time meeting between the two clubs with Asheville leading 13-11. In the last five head-to-head games, Asheville holds a slim 3-2 lead.Â
The last time the two teams met, PC came out victorious, 76-74, inside Kimmel Arena. Fitzgerald recorded a career-high 23 points, as the senior went 10-for-17 from the field. She also grabbed 16 rebounds, including seven on the offensive glass. Wall added 12 points and five rebounds, while Scott, Webb and Ali Trani each totaled nine points.Â
As a team, UNC Asheville shot 28-for-57 (.491 percent) from the hardwood, including 8-for-17 (.471 percent) beyond the three-point arc.
