Bulldogs Pick Up Thrilling Come-From-Behind Win at Radford for Ninth Straight Victory

RADFORD, Va. – UNC Asheville closed out its regular season in emphatic fashion with a thrilling come-from-behind 3-2 (19-25, 11-25, 25-22, 25-16, 15-12) Big South Conference victory at Radford on Saturday, Nov. 10, 2018.
The victory was UNC Asheville's ninth straight.
The match started with the Highlanders securing victory in the first two sets, but things changed in the third set when UNC Asheville (15-11, 10-6 Big South) battled back in the set to take a 25-22 win in the set over Radford (20-5, 12-4 Big South).
The fourth set saw UNC Asheville control things in a 25-16 win that forced the match into a decisive fifth set.
The two teams would play back and forth over the majority of the fifth set with things all tied up at 12-all late in the set.
UNC Asheville took over from there by collecting the next three points to take a 15-12 win in the set and a thrilling 3-2 victory in the match.
Three Bulldogs finished with double-doubles in the thrilling win at Radford with Cara Guthrie leading the way with her 10th double-double of the year with 14 kills and 13 digs.
Julia Borges collected her third double-double of the season with 12 kills and 11 digs, while Ansley Rooks finished with 10 kills and 10 digs to finish with her second consecutive double-double.
Grace Volk just missed on another double-double of her own with 37 assists and nine digs.
Cecilia Stack led UNC Asheville with five blocks in the match.
Stephanie Neast was the top performer for Radford in its loss to the Bulldogs with 22 kills.

UNC Asheville's current nine-match winning streak is its longest winning streak since 2005. It is also the longest of the Frederico Santos era as head coach of the Bulldogs.

UNC Asheville's 10 wins in league play this regular season marked its most wins in conference play since the 2010 season. The Bulldogs have collected an impressive 19 Big South wins over the last two seasons with UNC Asheville picking up nine wins in league play last season.

Cara Guthrie Joins Elite Club
Cara Guthrie joined the ultra-exclusive club of those with 1,000 kills and 1,000 digs in the win at Radford. After the road win at Radford, Guthrie now has 1,012 digs in her career. Guthrie, who currently has 1,241 kills, became just the 12th in UNC Asheville volleyball history to have over 1,000 kills and 1,000 digs.
Guthrie in the Big South Record Books
Cara Guthrie now with over 1,000 kills and 1,000 digs became just the 46th player in Big South Conference history to have 1,000 kills and 1,000 digs in her career. Guthrie also currently has 132 aces in her career, meaning that with her over 1,000 kills and 1,000 digs she became just the 35th in league history with over 1,000 kills, 1,000 digs and 100 aces.
