Bulldogs Pick Up Fifth Straight Win in Road Sweep of Charleston Southern

CHARLESTON, S.C. – UNC Asheville volleyball picked up its fifth straight victory with a 3-0 (25-23, 25-16, 25-19) Big South Conference road victory over Charleston Southern on Tuesday, Oct. 30, at the Buc Dome.
The match started with Charleston Southern (10-10, 5-7 Big South) owning a 20-16 lead in the first set. UNC Asheville (11-11, 6-6 Big South) would rally and score the next five points to take a 21-20 lead in the set. The Bulldogs would go on to win the first set, 25-23.
The second set would be all Bulldogs with UNC Asheville taking a 25-16 win before closing things out in the third set with a 25-19 victory.
Cara Guthrie led UNC Asheville in the match with 17 kills. She also had four digs, two blocks and one ace.
Grace Volk finished with 34 assists, six digs and six kills, while Ansley Rooks had eight kills. Rooks also had two aces.
Two Bulldogs ended their efforts with double-digit digs with Madisen Zyburt collecting 19 and Kasey West finishing with 11.
Cecilia Stack had four blocks for the Bulldogs. She also had six kills.
Brooke Monssen led Charleston Southern with 11 kills.

UNC Asheville volleyball swept the season series from Charleston Southern for the second straight year.

Nearing 1,000 Digs
Cara Guthrie already has surpassed 1,000 kills in her career earlier this season, but she is nearing joining the ultra-exclusive club of those with 1,000 kills and 1,000 digs. After the win over Charleston Southern, Guthrie now has 977 digs in her career. Guthrie, who currently has 1,173 kills, would become just the 12th in UNC Asheville volleyball history to have over 1,000 kills and 1,000 digs.
